A dog's life (PM before joining) Empty A dog's life (PM before joining)

Post by cornix 16/5/2017, 23:55

It was four in the morning, Krolva was less asleep than most districts would be at this time. It still was after all the rogue district, night was the usual time they would be awake. The sun would rise in about an hour but until everyone would be awake it would still take two or three.

Cora and her group entered through the main gate and finally got to see Krolva again. It was not a particularely pretty district, so to say. The fact it had just rained and the streets thus full of mud did not help either. The lack of homeless, starving and begging kids and the fact you could see less due to the darkness made it seem less bad than it was. More peaceful, so to say. She patted her horse's neck and slowly made her way through the streets. Her companions were more awake than usual. It did not take them long until they had reached the stables, Cora paid for the horse rent and waited for her companions to come to her.

"Alright, listen now, it still is quite early, we are probably all hungry and thirsty. You probably need rest as well."

Neither of them had slept properly for two days, nor eaten.

"It's no problem though, we will go to our headquarters and that's the point I do not need you anymore, from then one you will have a few days break, depending on what we decide on.", she stopped talking and thought about what else she had to do. There was a huge meeting coming up with almost all of the pack, which would include them as well actually. She had to get some new recruits and talk to a few others that were not yet affiliated with the pack.

"Alright, only thing still concerning you after we are at our HQ is the huge meeting, you do not necessarily need to attend, I would want you to."

Cora nodded and started heading towards the center of the city while her companions automatically went into their usual protection stance. She led them towards the main street to avoid bumping into unfriendly fellows for a short while. Only a few people wandered through the streets, alot of them just prepared their shops.

As they were about to leave the main road Cora held her index and middle finger up at head height and waved with them. Her companions and she herself went into a wedge formation, keeping Mitsuo (OOC: and possible other people) in the middle. They made their way towards one of the entrances to the black market without any interuptions.

Cora held the door open for everyone to enter, went in herself and quickly positioned herself at the beginning again. This was the entrance closest to the pack's HQ and it took them less than a few minutes to reach it.

They were greeted with a few grunts until they realized it was not just Cora but company as well, in which case they stood up properly and actually said something.
She shook her head and turned around to her company.

"Alright, Ludwig, take the others with you, take a shower and go to sleep if you want to. Before that, tell someone to heat up water for Mitsuo (OOC: and the others) to take a shower as well.", she nodded, "Right, that's all that concerns you, show up if you want at the meeting later on."

They disappeared without another word while Cora ordered some food from one of the men standing around.

"Alright Mitsuo, make yourself a home, the hot water will be ready in a short while, food as well, if you need anything else tell me.", she smiled for the first time since they had arrived in Krolva.

//OOC: This RP depends on the Lucky ones RP and who will choose to join them, that's why if I say 'Mitsuo' I also refer to everyone choosing to be with them, please send me a PM beforehand before joining

Mitsuo stretched and smiled. He appreciated the security Cora and her crew but was not going to comment on how a bit overdone it was.

"Yo," he greeted the other grunts as the stood with a raise of his hand.

Mitsuo loosened his tie and chuckled, "Thanks Cora. For a meant-to-be rough person, you're a great hostess."
He returned her smile.

The young Shimura sat in the nearest vacant chair, taking off his waistcoat and hanging on the back of it before sitting down.

"So, don't you have something important to get on with? Don't allow me to delay you from your work," he set down his bag next to it and opened it, putting his tie in and trading it for a hip flask filled with water.

He took a swig.

Mitsuo said something about her being a great hostess. Most of Cora could not really believe that, why would she be a great hostess?

"I doubt I am one for one thing...I mean...I just order people around, that's all I do."

She scratched her head, "With the thingies I need to do...well I need you in them as well, but you should get some rest until then, I guess...it's probably better for you if you do."

It took a short while until a fairly small human, aka a kid, showed up and told them that Mitsuo's water had been warmed up.

"I really hope it's alright for you, the temperature and all. Just follow this kid.", she looked down on him, "Listen brat, if he wants something you get it for him, alright?", she patted his head a bit too strong and he almost lost balance. Cora did not seem to notice.

The little kid went up to Mitsuo and waited for him to follow him. If Mitsuo would stand up he would accompany him to a small room, in the middle would be a wodden bathtub with warm water inside. The kid would do as Mitsuo would tell him. After he would be finished he would accompany him to a bed in a tiny room.

After Mitsuo had left Cora herself would take a short shower and resting as well. The meeting would officially start at nine, she was not sure if everyone actually would be there when it was supposed to start.

//OOC: you can just let Mitsuo go to sleep and wake up again, I will start the meeting in the next post

Mitsuo stood up and followed the kid into the small bathroom, taking his bag with him.
He hesitated as he looked at the small wooden tub.

'I keep forgetting that not everyone lives the same lifestyle,' he thought to himself, 'quite unfair.'

Mitsuo was brought back to reality as the kid pulled on his waistcoat.
"Is it not to your liking, sir?"

The young mechanic smiled and ruffled the child's hair, "no, it's very fine thank you."

After a moment of staring at each other, Mitsuo spoke up again, "Would you please wait outside?"

The boy nodded and left the room, closing the door behind him.

With a sigh, Mitsuo undressed and tossed his clothes to the side; placing his bag with them.
He took out the band that held his plaid and let his hair untangle as it spread out between his shoulder blades.

He rubbed the only scar that ruined the continuity of his lightly tanned skin; positioned on his left shoulder.

Mitsuo carefully stepped into the tub and lowered himself down until he was sat before relaxing and leaning against the edge of the bath.

After a few minutes of soaking, he reached to grab the soap and started scrubbing himself down - making sure to clean every part of his body.

"Yo, kid!"
Mitsuo had called out for his appointed 'assistant'.
The boy opened the door slightly and leaned in, "yes?"

Mitsuo smiled kindly, "Sorry to be a bother but can you please fetch me a bucket of water? Doesn't matter what temperature."

The child nodded and rushed out.

A few moments later the boy returned with the bucket, entering the room and handed it to Mitsuo.

Mitsuo took the bucket from the kid, "thanks! Can you please wait outside for me again? I'll be done soon!"

The child then returned to the position outside the door.

Mitsuo slid to the center of the bath and poured the water of his head.
He shivered, "Cold..."
The young Shimura then started to ring out his hair, making sure it was clean.

Mitsuo stood up and grabbed a towel, wrapping it around his waist before stepping out the tub.
He then grabbed another towel and used it to dry his hair.

He let the towel that he was drying his hair with fall around his shoulders before he picked up his stuff and exited the room.

"I'm ready to be shown to the bedroom," he said with a gentle tone.

The boy nodded and lead the way.
Once reaching the room Mitsuo dismissed the child in a polite manner before entering.

Mitsu, once inside, thoroughly dried himself.
He rummaged through his bag and pulled out a fresh pair of boxers.
Once he pulled them on, Mitsuo got into the bed and relaxed; waiting patiently for his eyes to drift shut and his mid to fall into a slumber.

A dog's life (PM before joining) Empty Re: A dog's life (PM before joining)

Post by cornix 8/6/2017, 23:25

Cora went to the bathroom that everyone of her soldiers used. It was full of wooden bathtubs. She went to one somewhere in the back and got herself some water. It was icecold but she did not mind. She grew up showering with cold water and was thus quite used to it. Cora quickly undressed and got into the bathtub. The worst part about showering was drying her hair afterwards. It was just too long and she really wanted to cut it...but she still liked it. That's why she did not. She took a piece of soap and started shampooing her hair.

It took her a good fifteen minutes until she managed to get all the soap out of it again. Cora stepped out of the bathtub and dried herself off before putting on similar jeans and changing her weapons from on set of clothes to the other. She dried her hair as good as she could with a towel and then went to her own private bedroom. It was quite a luxury for her to finally have her own bedroom. She sighed and laid down to sleep, someone would wake her up for sure.

As she thought, a kid knocked on her door about half an hour before the meeting would start. She slowly stood up and sent it away to get Mitsuo something to eat. Cora would not need something now, she was used to not eating.

She stood up, got dressed and proceeded to walk to the meeting room.

"Kid, wait. Bring me a pen and a paper, a huge one."

The kid was back fast and Cora went on with writing down the agenda.

1. Recruits

Mental note: kids on the streets
Noted.

2. Military, Bodyguarding, etc.

Mental note: Most important, don't forget Mitsuo in this one.

2.1. Bodyguarding - who leaves, who is in charge, who gets to hire us?

2.2. Military - employed by the king, alternative to military, better equipment

She looked at the few points she had written down. She could have very well remembered them as well, in case she had to take notes it would still come in handy.

Cora sat back in her chair and waited for everyone to arrive. Not everyone came on time, at around ten past all the important people were gathered while the soldiers stayed in the back, talking to each other and enjoying their basically free day. Cora was busy with walking around, greeting and talking to people. She hated doing that.

She sighed, not everyone had approved of her being the leader now and the new guests did not help either. Cora looked around and decided it was time to start the meeting.

"Welcome to our-", she stopped talking, just a few listened. Cora closed her eyes sighed and let out a short, "HEY!", so everyone would notice her. This was definitly everything but the best way to get attention from a bunch of alphas...she did not really care though.

"Oh, you CAN listen after all!", she said with a big smile on her face, "Marvelous! Let's start, shall we not?"
She did not wait for anyone to sit down and just proceeded to talk over their murmurs.

"Welcome, again. To our meeting. We have a few points in our agenda here, feel free to ask questions.", she just gave them a short look before leaning down and reading her points again.

"We will start with recruits. As we all know...we NEED fresh meat. Not too little either. If anyone is worried about the finances of keeping them, I have ideas for that. We will get to that later."

"What's there about new recruits, should we not just buy them as always?", someone asked.

"We will buy them just as always...there is just a little problem. Everyone should know by now that I have been looking into getting employed by the king himself. As part of the military. The better part of the military. The non corrupt one.", she stopped and remembered Auth's funeral speech. He was damn good at giving them...she most certainly was not. "As we are working in more...legal fields then, we should obtain recruits in a more legal way. And I found a simple one. We will buy children from the streets. The parents get a bit less than what we would pay the black market traders. It will be quite something for them. They are poor after all. You might wonder about the problems in terms of kids wanting to go back to parents. Yes this is a problem indeed, you will have less ways to get them the way we want them to be."

Cora looked around, "I am really not sure about this, I thought it might get to be a nice addition. Opinions?"

Post by Mitsuo Shimura 20/6/2017, 23:17

A slender man that stood off to the side spoke up, a snarl plastered on his face.
He spoke with a disgusted tone tracing his voice like poison.

"If the children we take from their homes don't have their minds on our goals then they are useless to us."

He paused.
Even though he looked angry, he didn't raise his voice to shout.

"I think it would be wiser to scoop up the homeless. Make them thankful we started looking after them and get them to work for us in return. False devotion, if you will."

This man is named Renn, another Alpha for a different district.

Renn was present at every meeting, however he was known for never taking part. He ever shared his thoughts or presented ideas to the others.

In fact, some of the other usual attendees to meetings where suspicious of him being a traitor.

Cora looked at him for a few seconds with no emotion showing on her face. It could either mean her agreeing or disagreeing, it was not really tellable. She finally raised an eyebrow and started talking:

"They would not really have their minds on our goals, eh?", she stopped again and started walking towards her soldiers, randomly picking one of them. "Shirt off."

He did as he was told, uncovering scars, not too many but still quite a few. It was obvious what she wanted to prove with this.

"I doubt anyone here had their minds on our goals when they arrived...", she simply said. Her point was made. No need to elaborate on this.

"The homeless idea is not bad, the problem with that is however that they do not really belong to someone...we can buy kids from parents. We can't buy kids from themselves. Noone would want to stay with us. Face this truth.", she smiled, "I like the idea though, we will try that."

Cora was not too sure about his idea, it might end up well...it might not.

"Everyone in here will know what the problem is: the kids we might get from the street could be...cowards, pussies...not fit for what we want them to be. It IS easier for them if they have some sort of tragic backstory they can hold on.", she started grinning, "We could just make them homeless though...", the last sentence was almost whispered and more meant for herself. Renn and some other Alpha should have heard it though.

Renn smirked, holding back a chuckle, at Cora's last sentence.

Gillian another Alpha stared at Cora with a frown. He was known for disagreeing with most statements made at meetings.
He started to speak, "That's fine and all but how would we convince parents to sell their children!? Not everyone would just agree off of the bat!"

"And so the mouse squeaks," Renn commented, "you always turn tail and run as soon as your reputation is threatened."

Gillian snarled but didn't deny the fact.

Renn continued, "I, for one, am liking the new Alpha. She's not as soft as the old man was. And like she said, we could always make the children homeless."

A murderous glint flashed in Renn's eyes when he spoke his last sentence.
He was quite the mystery when it came to how he ran his division. There was dark rumors of how it was like but none proven true with witness or evidence.

"Now, I don't think there should be any more arguments against her ideas. We already have a solid idea of how we can attain more members, all we need to do now is put a plan into action."

A dog's life (PM before joining) Empty Re: A dog's life (PM before joining)

Post by cornix 8/7/2017, 00:58

Cora started laughing. Not her usual cheerful laughter, the cold one. Basically Nec's.

"As Renn said, we can make them homeless. To be honest, the idea itself does not sound bad to me...", she continued to speak while walking towards Gillian, "we just need to do that without anyone being able to...trace it back to us. Even though...there should not be many that care, right?", she smirked, turned around and faced the rest of the alphas again.

"This should have been my first point. If anyone has additions, tell me.", she did not even wait for someone to speak up, it was better to just move on, esspecially for Mitsuo.

"Alright, second point. As I said, and as everyone knows. I want to join the military and start bodyguarding the highest ups."

She started walking around again.

"We need to become the elite of the elite. The best. The ones you want to hire and the ones you don't want your enemies to hire. We already are quite good at bodyguarding, the last few...months I would say...we have become lazy though. We need to decide on whom to put to bodyguard.", she stopped in front of her own soldiers.

"I will leave you a say in this, as in, if you want to do that. That to be said though, you have to prove yourself in certain areas. One of them, obviously, close combat. I will only allow the best to be a bodyguard in this. There are exeptions obviously. You need to be able to use guns, crossbows, knives. That sort of stuff. You need to be loyal. Your employer's life is going to mean everything to you, protect his life and everyone's life that is of importance to him. There are obviously a few more points to this.", she turned around to the Alphas.

"I very well hope for you to agree with me on this. Only the best. Only the ones exeptionally good at close combat and weaponry. We did send some...weaklings at times. There is no way we are doing this again."

She exhaled deeply, thinking about what was to be said next. Cora was not sure if anyone would disagree with her on that, but doubted it. There really was nothing to fight over for her in this case.

"Now, to our maybe most important matter and the reason why we have a guest.", she went over to Mitsuo, "This is Mitsuo Shimura, part of the survey corps, inventor, and lots more.", she smiled at him before going back to her cold mask, "As we want to join the military we need to be able to fight titans. A trainee's training takes three years. Three years to build up muscles, learn basics of combat, learn how to operate the 3DMG. We have an advantage. Our soldiers already have muscles, they know the basics of combat, the only thing they do not know is how to operate a 3DMG. Sadly this is the most important matter though."

Cora sighed, "With Mitsuo and our soldier's help I want to develop an improved version of the 3DMG. Maybe different ones depending on where you use it. We are not going to bother with doing what the garrison does, we certainly will do what the survey corps are doing. We might also do some things the unicorns do. But the latter is not as important."

She looked around, standing in sideways in front of Mitsuo, as if to protect him from the rest.
"Opinions?"

Mitsuo chuckled nervously and waved when he was introduced.

"I actually have an opinion," he spoke up with confidence, "why don't you try to hire other scout drop-outs?"

He folded his arms and took a small step forward, "I mean, you need people to work 3DMGs so why not get people who already know how to use it?"

Mitsuo started pacing left and right as he spoke, "I understand training your own soldiers will also help as you can always use them in the future but I don't think I'm good at teaching. Drop-out scouts, however, would most likely know how to use 3DMG already and may also now be looking for work which would be your chance to hire them, no?"

He stepped closer to Cora, "little side note, I actually need your services at some point."

Cora listened to Mitsuo suggesting hiring scout drop outs. The idea itself was not bad, there was just a slight problem. She nodded for him as he mentioned his need of her services and then answered to his idea about scout drop outs.

"Huge problem with those. They know how to use it, yes...but they are wimps. They won't enjoy this here for long, esspecially not if they are drop outs."

She was pretty sure that a majority would agree with her about that. Cora sighed, "We could on the other hand hire a few to teach our people...thinking about it, we DO need teachers. Scout drop outs might work very well. They have to prove themselves obviously...and they will not really train our soldiers. They will show them how it's done. Someone else will give them the actual instructions...I can not imagine them getting along with our...little monsters over there.", she looked at the soldiers. It was true, they could be awful. Not listening. Just doing what they wanted...a pest.

Cora looked at Mitsuo again: "But you can do the thing with the 3DMG, right? I am just thinking...that using our own might give us a huge advantage. And it will help you to. We are basically the test subjects, if something goes wrong, it does not affect the whole of the military. Just a relatively small part of mercenaries that will not have the whole of humanity on their shoulders."

She dazed off a bit, not sure if what she said just know made any sense. Cora was slightly stressed due to the huge amount of higher ups in the room. She had never really been around this many.

"Oh, of course I can tinker with 3DMGs! I'm not a Shimura for nothing!"
Mitsuo excalimed, holding back laughter.

"However, I think I would rather test the prototype myself. I wouldn't want any of your soldiers getting hurt for an obvious error I missed. Otherwise the blame might fall back to me and, no offense to you guys, I wouldn't be surprised if you killed me for it."

Mitsuo straightened his tie nervously, he did not like the atmosphere of the other Alphas.

Renn chuckled, "Smart kid, indeed. If any of my men got hurt.. well, I certainly wouldn't be pleased. And who knows what payback I'd get on that handsome face of yours."

Renn laughed, venom and cheerfulness tied in his tone,

Mitsuo gulped, 'That guy... I can't tell if that guy is serious or not!'

Renn stopped his laughter and smirked, 'I'd like to see what this kid can do though... if he does well, maybe I'll hire him. Even if he doesn't want to join...'

Cornix did not intervene when Renn said something about soldiers getting hurt. She would certainly have some spare ones...according to Vex.

She smiled at Renn, "He does not need to join, in fact...I do not want him to join unless he really would want to. We need someone in the military as well. I mean...I do know quite some people, out of obvious reasons, Mitsuo on the other hand...he is less the 'let me go with my head through any wall I can find' type. So that's a huge bonus."

Cora started looking at Mitsuo again, "Alright, you will test it first, unless someone in here wants to...?", she looked around the soldiers. Noone seemed esspecially interested.

"As expected.", she turned her head back to the Alphas, "Mitsuo, I am always free to test your stuff, I just need to be in the area. I do not mind being or getting hurt. There is just one question left regarding this matter at hand: Should we let everyone get used to the usual gear at first or start right with Mitsuo's new one?", this question was more directed to Mitsuo, as she herself was not sure about it. The other Alpha's probably did not know either.

"thinking about it, we should probably do both, have a group that works with the usual 3DMG first and one that gets used to yours at first. Then we will see what is more efficient. I bet on the first one."

The majority of Alphas and soldiers nodded. She smiled.

"Oh right. This was not the last question as I have one more regarding the 3DMG. What exactly do we expect from the new one?", she started walking around again, "This is kind of difficult to answer as everyone apart from two in here, to my knowledge atleast, did not use one yet. Still. You all know what they look like. What is bothering you?"

The soldiers started mumbling, one Alpha looked a bit pissed at them suddenly starting to talk.

Cora looked at him for a split second then turned around to the soldiers, "This is one is mainly directed to you, as you will be the ones using it! Raise your arm if you have an idea, don't want you all to be babbling at the same time."

"The...places were the blades are stored are a bit bulky...aren't they?", someone said, most of them agreed, "Could we not...safe space there?"

"Maybe even replace it with more gas!", another one shouted.

"Nonono! They would be equally bulky!"

"Oh shut up! That's not a problem! Just because you look like an asparagus!"

The other one mumbled something about beating him up but did not dare to say it out loud in front of this many others.

"I think we need more blades!", a small one in the first row said.

Cora wrinkled her forehead and turned back to Mitsuo, "I think...the main issue is that it is not...too well made, too much space in between the blades...I am not too sure if someone can fix that, but I believe it is possible..."

"We could make multiple versions.", the same small one said. Cora did not hear it, the only ones that would have been able to would be Renn or Mitsuo if he listened very closely.

Mitsuo looked nervously at Renn for a while before listening to Cora once again.

Mitsuo heard every suggestion being said in the meeting. He even managed to just hear the multiple versions suggestion.

His shoulders sagged and his face now held an stupefied expression, "I really can't help but feel you guys are underestimating me."

He gently placed his palm n his face and took a deep breath, "you do realize I could do all of those things."

He looked back up, "I'll try minimize the gap between the blades, add gas storage and increase the blade storage. I have tried doing these tasks separately before but never all at once on a set of 3DMG so it will take a bit of time."

Mitsuo took out a small flip notebook and pencil from his waistcoat and jotted down all what he needed to do.

"Anything else? Like longer grapple distance?"

'I've never thought of that before! I'm getting that down anyway,' he thought to himself as he jotted down his new idea.

A dog's life (PM before joining) Empty Re: A dog's life (PM before joining)

Cora grinned at Mitsuo's comment about them underestimating him.
They really did, and even she, who knew him the best did. She would never admit it, but some part of her certainly did.

"Forgive them, Mitsuo. We are not...uhm. They never used it, they don't know how to properly use technical things either. So...yeah."

Cora thought about the longer grappling distance. It really might be useful, but...it might just weigh way too much. She told that to Mitsuo. It might really end up being a problem. The weight.

There were no other useful ideas coming from anyone in the room, that's why Cora decided to move on to the next point.

Before she started to speak she added a few things to those already written down.

1. Recruits
the homeless, making them or not

2. Military, Bodyguarding, etc.
2.1. Bodyguarding - Only the ones exeptionally good at close combat and weaponry

2.2. Military
2.2.1. 3DMG...ask Mitsuo about that

She looked at her notes. Cora was pretty sure that there had been a point 3. Apparently there was not. She thought about it and scribbled it down.

3. Housing

"Okay, last point, then I am through with what I had to say. Is anyone against us moving more upwards? We should get ourselves a proper headquarter somewhere outside. It will cost alot, obviously.", she stopped talking, "Thinking about it. In how many districts are we active? Krolva, Utopia, Yarckel, Stohess, Orvud and Mitras. I do not really count Mitras in though. We are just active, we do not have an HQ there."

She looked around, inspecting the Alphas. Gillian was responsible for Utopia and Renn for Yarckel. Layne, a rather quiet, middle aged man, who always wore a mask because of some scars on his jaw was the Alpha of Orvud. The one responsible for Stohess was currently occupied with sharpening a knife and went by the name of Driscoll. Cora had always been sure that the last two were somehow related to each other. They were quite similar. (OOC: feel free to RP them as well)

Cora layed out her thoughts first before she started slowly speaking.
"This is a short matter that does not concern our soldiers right now.", she turned around, "Everyone below a Beta is allowed to leave."

Only a bit more than a dozen remained. Not everyone had brought all their betas, Cora's were all present as it was after all held in her district.

It took them less than a minute to leave. She waited until the doors were closed before talking about her idea.

"About the new...housing for us. I have an idea, which is rather...uhm...it might be unpleasant for you, but listen first before you make decisions.", she took a deep breath.

"First of all: who of you all agrees with wanting to be a part of the military? Be honest."

Mitsuo, not being part of any of the Pack, left with the Betas. He politely waited for Cora outside of the meeting room. Humming a soft gentle tune to himself.

Gillian instantly piped up to Cora's question, "I am willing to join the Military... their resources will be useful!"

Renn sneered and folded his arms as he spoke, "Of course the coward would hide behind the military. However, I must confess I am interested in joining - I have my... reasons... that require me to 'gain access' into places of highest authority."

Driscoll smirked, "If we join the military, there is a chance that we can get away with doing more illegal things by being in cahoots with the corrupted."

A sigh came from Layne, "no."

Renn raised an eyebrow, "no? What do you mean no? Sssurely you're joking!"

Layne's eyes gleamed with frustration, "I mean no, I am not joining. We have survived this far without their help. I do see why it is necessary to join them now. I think because our new Alpha is trying to make up for being kicked out of the military. I'm sure she is just trying to help her friends."

Renn smiled, which was a scary sight to see for it was not a normal smile - it was twisted, much like his mind.
"Oh, ssharp tongue you have there! Be a shame if some one... cut it off! However, I'm afraid that if I did that, you'd be as blunt as a brick."

Layne glared, "you looking for a fight!?"

Renn turned his whole body to face Cora, "no. It's obvious I would win."

Layne clenched his fists but there was no more conversation.

A dog's life (PM before joining) Empty Re: A dog's life (PM before joining)

Post by cornix 27/7/2017, 23:45

Cora strategically refrained from talking while they discussed their problems with each other. Or her. No matter.

She sighed and thought about what they said. Gillian was in fact a coward, but not as dumb as he might seem. Otherwise he would not be an Alpha, he lead his troops carefully, always watching out to not get caught. Useful in his own way.

Renn was still careful, quite similiar to Gillian, just less cowardish. He made his moves seem more smart than frightened. Apart from that...his self confidence hid every mistake. Well or not. It still did.

Driscoll had always seemed the shadiest out of them, the type to just enjoy prostitution, fights, alcohol, food and sleep. Cora had never been sure about any of these assumptions, it was simply the way they seemed to her.

Then there was Layne. Right now he just looked frustrated and frightened. Frightened to lose his independence. He did not like the unknown. He was a coward, much like Gillian, just in a different way.

Cora pretended to ignore everything they had said and started replying to them one after another.

"Gillian...", she said, turning around to him, "What resources would you expect? There won't be much more than money. That is everything we need though.

You want to gain access to places of authority, you want strength and power, right Renn?", she did not even wait for his answer and just continued, "Layne, you are the second youngest here, just a bit older than I am. It is understandable that you react this way. If I recall correctly you have been an Alpha for a little longer than a year, right?", she went closer to him.

Layne was sitting on a chair, Cora put her hands on the arm rests and leaned down, getting her mouth close to his ear.

"You see, I have my sources, I know of people not agreeing with you being an alpha, I know your...problems within the pack. Let me assure you one thing though, you will not lose your independence if you join the military. In fact, you will gain more as you will earn more money. With that respect.", she whispered and smiled. As she went back to the place she was standing before she added one last thing.

"And. About friends. Let's not call them 'friends', let's call them... 'acquaintances', they are useful. It's a symbiotic relationship.", they were her friends. Calling them like that here now could end up bad though.

She looked down to the floor and whispered a: "Who would want a mad man as a friend?", it was hopefully enough to convince them.

"Driscoll, one short question: What exactly do you plan on doing? Which illegal things?"

This was a very important question that she had to ask before revealing her plan.

Gillian let out a nervous chuckle, "Money is useful. But we may also get some food and other small resources that will make a difference."

"Pfft, please... it won't make a big difference," Renn spat in remark, "also I could easily gain power by fighting... what I want is knowledge."

Layne just glared at Cora as she spoke, "If think the same applies to you miss..."

Driscoll grinned as it became his turn to speak, "Just minor stuff; black market, trafficking, smuggling... the like."

Cora did not even feel the need to answer Gillian. Renn had already done that, he was just dumb sometimes. It was obvious, but he had to say something. The real reason for him being for the military thing was him not wanting to be against it, she would bet on that.

Renn wanting knowledge surprised Cora a bit, she was not sure what kind of knowledge she wanted, but she was positive it was not the type to hurt her without hurting him as well. Or one of her friends. That's why she did not care too much. Knowledge could be dangerous, but there was nothing that could not be solved by a little bit of violence here and there, Renn should be aware of that.

To Layne's comment she just looked at him. Hopefully making him understand that she was on his side, that he would not have to fear her. She smiled at him before finally talking to Driscoll. That prick.

Nec had gotten mad at him, his usual cold mad, while Vex got influenced and was now thinking of ways to kill him. It was not the easiest to think with those two talking in her head. She wanted to sigh, refrained from doing so as it might have leaded to false conclusions.

She looked in Renn's eyes shortly, he would have probably seen her slight insecurity about what Driscoll had said. Cora was young after all, inexperienced in most of the things happening, but not dumb. Well one part was, heavily so even. But just one. The smarter parts hoped for Renn to help in case she would need it now.

She took a deep breath and let Nec take over, not the voice, but the stance, the way her body was moving. It was obvious to the trained eye of a mercenary that something was different.

Cora, or Nec turned around to Driscoll, her hands on her hips.
"I just want to remind you of one thing, Driscoll. And one thing alone. This is the pack. We are a mercenary group. Mercenary. We are not affiliated with smuggling and have never been. We are not affiliated with trafficking and have never been.", she crossed her arms, "Starting it now would defeat the purpose of your soldiers, you would need smugglers, differently trained. Not battle beasts."

That to be said, Cora saw opportunities whenever there were some.

"Driscoll. Listen. I think you have always been the most shady out of all of us...haven't you? We might...get your smuggling, trafficking and so on going as well. It just does not fit the pack. We are mercenaries. Soldiers. Not smugglers."

Layne and Gillian stayed quiet and when Driscoll was going to speak, Renn cut in.
"Although variety could be nice and may get us more money, it is too risky to attempt. I know how you run you're business. You can't keep ssecrets from me. You find just selling out swords for hire isn't enough. You want more."

Renn and Driscoll glared at each other. The two shadiest Alphas fighting is a sight to see.

"Don't think I don't know how you work."
Driscoll started.
Ren chuckled, "please, do tell."

"You frame people!"
"Sometimes you just have to get rid of threats."
"You assassinate without clients!"
"I pay for my own assassinations, which makes me the client."
"You steal!"
"WE ALL STEAL!"

Driscoll seethed with anger while Renn just laughed. The snake had every retort prepared for such an argument.

Renn's laughter died down, "is that all?"
With no response Renn folded his arms.
"Is this meeting over then?"

A dog's life (PM before joining) Empty Re: A dog's life (PM before joining)

Cora took a very deep breath. It was not the most strategic strategy she chose as she did reveal her insecurity about what she was going to propose. On the other hand...maybe showing a bit weakness helped? She did not know. Cora was slightly mad at herself for showing her insecurity. It should not have been too bad but she did overestimate the others' sense on purpose so she would not end up in even worse trouble than she had imagined.

"Not yet. There was a reason why I asked all of these questions.", she stopped talking, thinking about how to put everything before she realized that they could have mistaken what she meant, "The questions without anyone but us present that is. Not the others, they are totally different from what I am going to propose..."

Cora really wished someone she could trust fully was in the room. She could have looked at them, seeing their face, the way they encouraged her. But there was noone. Noone she could look at. Noone she could turn now to to take a bit off the stress from her. Fear started to creep up in her, she was relying too much on others lately. She wanted someone actually present to be in the room. Cora had not been like this in a long while. This was bad. Way too bad. She started stressing herself more over it. Nec started taking over without her realizing. Cora was still stressing herself while Nec was preparing to speak. Between her last sentence and what she was about to say had been less than five seconds, which did make her seem way less stressed than she actually was.

Nec coughed, before letting the now more calmed down Cora speak: "What I was actually going to propose...", she stopped again but was forced by the others in her head to continue speaking without too much of a break in between, "There are quite some old, more or less abandoned, immense mansions inside Rose, close to Krolva. You should all know them. My idea is simple: how about we transfer our headquarters to one of them?", she stopped again, "Excuse me: all of our headquarters into one of them. With esspecially us, the Alphas, living there."

She stopped talking fully, thinking about what she just said. Cora gave them a few seconds to realize what she proposed before mentioning benefits and bad things.

"We obviously would be able to...manage ourselves better. We could not only split the districts but also which...department we are for. Military, bodyguarding, etc. If you think that it would give each of you less power, you are wrong, it would give us more within each other."

Nec stopped her from continueing to elaborate. Maybe not talking about everything was better for the final decision.

"So. What do you think?"

Cora really hoped the others would not get mad at her for even proposing that.

Before anyone could reply. Renn stopped leaning against the wall and approached Cora.
He took a few moments to stare at her, his expression blank.
"Ssure," he said, "I can see us putting our differences aside, helping each other out and living in a big space."

Layne chuckled.

Renn glared at him, "I'm not joking!"

He turned to the other Alphas, "we may not get on well but we can, maybe for short periods. No one said we have to be together all the time. Heck, I sstill want to run some of my business in ssecret to you guys!"

He turned back to Cora.
"If that's ok with you."

Renn turned back to the other Alphas, "I think it's a great idea and we are definitely going through with it! No matter what you say!"

Renn made a grand gesture of opening his arms wide in a 'ta da' manner.

Layne quickly turned his chuckle into a grunt of displeasure which Driscoll joined in on.
Gillian stammered out noises of confusion, not sure what to say.

"If you guys don't like it that much then you will have plenty of time to back-stab us in the mansion. But be warned... I will definitely be ready to do the same and I'm sure Miss Wolf will have her guard up."

Renn smiled his twisted smile before clapping his hands, "settled? Settled. Now back to our gracious leader!"

As Renn came closer to her she immediatly tensed up. Some part of her was expecting him to just slap her for her dumb idea.

But he did not.

Renn did not slap her across the face for what she had proposed. He did not do that. Cora was...stunned. She did not let anyone notice her stundness however. Renn might, the others probably did not.

She smiled happily, it had worked. It had worked. She could not believe it herself.

Cora looked down on her feet, still smiling. She had managed to do it. Amazing. She really did manage to do it.

She looked up, shortly looking at everyone with a rather neutral face before going back to her 'serious business' one.

"One last thing. Very important: What do you want to eat?"

Cora grinned before stretching and making her way out of the room to call one of the small boys to get them food.
