Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne) Empty Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne)

Clear night, starry sky.

A pleasant atmosphere for Lord Marvin's party. Of course, given he had to show off his new ballroom, it's not like rain would have done anything but force the guests to bring umbrellas for the anyway short walk they'd do.

Auth was never a man for carriages and the like, but the proceedings more or less had asked for it. As he stepped out of the wooden box on wheels, he proceeded to help Cora down. She was... not herself. An overly pompous dress, enveloping her lean body in its entirety, it showed nothing of the illicit equipment the wolf was hiding underneath. Her face was also covered in thick make-up, making her completely beyond recognition. Right now, she was the sheep following Auth to a party, for reasons petty and simple. A high-birth woman by the name of Nitya, fit only for looking good and not much else.

Of course, Auth was hoping that Cora would be able to control the wolf beneath the sheepskin long enough not to raise suspicion.

After all, they were here to steal Marvin's sweet, illicit, villainous even, documents.

As he walked past the guard checking the invitations, he noticed the heavy security. Of course, Marvin knew full well throwing the party was a risk. It was, first and foremost, a move of asserting strength over other nobles, and exposing a sensitive object like this was a classic method of proving your guards are too competent for any physical attempts to go past. Auth was here to prove the opposite, having assembled a makeshift team of 5.

Once inside, he looked around the ivory hall. Immense was the simplest term for it, and blindingly white. At the same time, however, overly decorated, too much so for anyone with even a vague aesthetic sense. Blind attempts at impressiveness, money thrown on nothing. His opponent was overestimating himself. Now, however, Auth was looking for Al-Sanya.

She was already there, of course, and they nodded towards each other. Her role would only come into play at the very end, a final clear of suspicions, but it was important nonetheless. Auth couldn't see his garrison contact here, but he assumed she had already arrived as well. All that was left was for him and Cora to start the action.

Soon, soon enough it would all start. For now, however, social mingling, waiting for the party to start.

After all, Lord Marvin was supposed to be the last to enter the scene, and attempting the heist with him still in his room would be simply poor taste.

Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne)

Cora took a deep breath and closed her eyes shortly before entering Al Sanya's room. That woman would have way too much fun putting make up on her and she was not looking forward to it. This was her own personal horror story and it would begin the moment she stepped through that door. That faithful door. That evil door. The evil door behind which the even more evil of all society lurked: actual women.

With a deep sigh Cora stepped into the cave of the dragon. The woman entering and exiting this door and the following party would never be the same again.

---------------

It took a while until Cora was done and she hated every minute of her face and character changing process. Al Sanya stepped out of the room to give her some time alone with her new face.
She looked up in the mirror, so far she had avoided looking at it, but there was no way around it now. Cora blinked a few times staring back at the unfamiliar face that was now mimicing all her motions. Odd. She did not like it. It was not herself. It was someone else's face. Her freckles had been painted over, her cheeks were overly red. Who wanted to be red on purpose? Blushing was annoying and had no reason to survive evolution. Her lips were a bright red, overlined excessively in Cora's opinion and they had managed to make her somehow look more...chubby than she actually was. Instead of her beautiful, much adored dark rings under her eyes...there was now...nothing. Just smooth skin. Her usual ungroomed eyebrows were slimmer, dyed red. And. And. Her hair was as well. Her hair was quite a bright red, it still looked natural but...it was red. She was now a redhead. She! Cora had always been blonde! Apart from that! Her usual ponytail that she either wore simple or braided was gone, instead her hair was curled, put up in an ominous and rather odd way.
Only now did Cora realize the fake beauty mark they had put under her right eye. What was that?
Cora shook her head as if she was grossed out by her own changed looks.
"Bah.", all three of them said simulataniously, making her voice sound artificial.
"I don't like it.", Cora said, "It's not me."
"I agree, what is that thing under our eye?! Why is it there? And...Uh. I do like the red hair though", Vex replied, hectically turning his head around.
"Stop moving, we don't want our hair to go all weird. Stop complaining, it's not for long.", Nec said half annoyed at both of them.
"Shut up!", both Cora and Vex hissed at Nec, "We don't like it!"
Nec sighed, "Okay. Training time."

They took another deep breath and closed their eyes. When they opened it again they tried out the most sheepish and dumbest looks they could. It took them a bit until they had a look they liked, they mimicked one of their client's wife. It worked.

--------------------------

During the entire ride in the carriage Cora did not want to speak a single word with Auth. She was supposed to be dumb after all. And speaking with people...in reality she was just too ashamed to sit in front of him like this and found excused in her head why she did not want to speak.

They exited the carriage and Cora did her best imitating the noble women that exited other carriages. She...did a rather okay job in her opinion. They decided on letting Nec talk and mostly letting him do the job. He was not really fine with it, given it implied he was actually more female than the others but he still agreed in the end.

The guards checking the names on the list passed Cora's competency test. Rather unfortunate for herself as she was supposed to be the one bypassing their collegues later on.
As they asked for her name she replied with her highest pitched, melodic voice, "Nitya!", she giggled and looked at the guard with a wide smile.

After this is over we will kill ourselves out of shame.
Agreed.
Agreed.
Good that we have settled this disbute.
We will also kill Auth and anyone that knows of our disguise if they ever mention it.
We can't kill people if we are dead.
Oh you bet. I will kill all of them if only one comments get commented by any commenter!

They went inside, Cora did not acknowledge the prettyness of the place in any way, still somehow managed to make it seem that way though. Instead of actually looking at the hall she was taking a close look at all the exits, the position of the guards and the way they behaved.
She gladly had taken a look at the floor plans before hand. It proved to be quite useful now as she had the possibility to take a look at the guards that were guarding the place from where she would leave the room eventually.
Atleast she knew how the guards were looking at the people, she realized some of them were rather interested in the women around. Something she might be able to use for her advantage. Possibly. More...like not as she still did not agree to be a woman.

The first waiter that passed with some champagne she stopped and took a glass. She took a sip from it to empty it half and kept the rest in her hands, looking around the scene.

This was going to be fun.

Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne)

Post by Sevyne Reizbar 8/5/2018, 00:32

Pretty was not a word used often or ever by Sevyne, and she definitely would never refer to herself with such a..meaningless term. However tonight many would say she was pretty or even beautiful, her normally twin tailed hair was let down-cascading to her lower back in waves of scarlet, each lock having a certain shine to it, make-up was ever prevalent on her face but seemingly tame compared to what she had seen of the average noble. While she certainly didn't mind the strange and rather different look, she didn't really like it either it just wasn't..her. Of course when she was shoved into a dress and high heels is when the whole ordeal seemed to go downhill, she hated the damn thing, a long poofy thing of red and white with a collar way to high for her tastes.

To be honest, most of her week had been a whirlwind-first she was chosen as being a representative for the entire garrison for some stupid party thing that she had no idea about, and then some noble guy comes up to her asking if she wanted a part in a heist. She almost immdiatley denied his request, finding it to be a stupid and rather suicidal idea, but when he explained things a little further she soon caved and reluctantly agreed. Pompous nobles pissed her off to no end, and one that used underhanded tactics for status was even worse- so convincing her to assist in crippiling him wasn't all that hard. Her job was simple, create a distraction at a signal- this would be an easy feat, as her entire job basically revoloved around getting people attention.

Of course the enigmatic man decided to leave her out of a majority of the planning, most likely due to not trusting her, simply telling her to create a distraction once his lover goes to the batroom or something- he even tried to offer her payment but she hasitly refused, the last thing she needed was owing some mystery man a favor.

She had arrived at the party a little later than expected, but still earlier than some others- the whole experience was rather strange to her. Being escorted out of the carriage like some dainty flower, and having to have her name checked off before going in, only to see a massive white ballroom that shined brighter than Pixis's head after a fresh wax. She didn't like it. People were treating her like glass and everyone did this weird curtsey that she tried but failed to imitate making it rather well known how experienced she was- some women even laughing at her. of course she ignored them, later on tonight she would make it rather well known that she was not some dainty flower, but instead a sleeping dragon.

She waited only five minuets before seeing the Auth guy walk in with his presumed lover, she crinkled her nose at the woman's appearance- while she certainly was pretty, the heavy amounts of makeup retracted from the overall appeal of the woman, making her beauty seem artificial and not natural. Of course, Sevyne being the perceptive woman that she was noticed how the woman scanned the rooms exits and guard placements, already showing Sevyne that the woman was experienced in her craft even impressing her a little.

Grabbing a glass of whatever liquid the waiter was walking around with, she decided to lean against the nearest wall, rearing her head back and drinking the whole glass in a rather unladylike fashion. She had a feeling that she was going to need a lot more of those as tonight was assuredly going to be long, annoying, and hopefully fun.

Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne)

Post by Sprw201 9/5/2018, 03:04

For such a lovely night, it was a shame René had to stay in the shadows. It wasn’t exactly like René was supposed to be there, or that he had to be there. But he did have a job. The lighthearted laughter, and he swore he heard the tuning of violins inside, would help cover his footsteps. His job? Wait outside and catch a dress, or at least that was the first part. This man, who introduced himself as Auth, had approached him. And shoved a bag that jingled louder than the Wallist’s bells in his face.

He hadn’t had to dress for the occasion, but he’d still tried. He wore regular dress pants and a jacket to buff the quickly chilling night air. At least he only had to sneak around the building rather than into it. Security combed the grounds around the building, which certainly was grand and vast. The biggest René had ever seen. It was almost as big as a titan. Perhaps bigger. He craned his neck to try and see over the top of the roof. It was in vain, but the stars that were scattered above the grandeur spectacle sure was a sight. The main entrance was easy to pick out amidst the crowd, various security guards lined the perimeter and their heads swiveled about quickly, scanning the crowd for anyone suspicious looking. Luckily, René had a few years of sneaking around under his belt. Right now he had two options, act like a drunk or walk with a purpose. The latter was probably safer. He’d be more noticable if he did do the former and so he stuck with his plan, looking far into the distance and taking longer strides than he normally did. Luckily nobody paid him any notice, though a few did straighten up. Maybe they thought he was someone important.

The back of the building was a little less extraordinary, the roughly hewn stone gently snagging René’s clothes as he flattened himself against it. He’d be waiting here for a while, but he couldn’t afford to bring his sketchbook with him, less he be caught by a watchful guard. He squatted, trying to keep low and hidden from the roaming guards. This would be a tad harder than he thought. And then the thought of the dress… at least he would be able to do with it however he wanted. René would’ve considered selling it would it not have been for earlier event. He was considering burning it, and so he brought matches with him. The windows above him… there were so many he didn’t know which one the dress would even come out of. At least he was in the right spot…

Come to think of it… there wasn’t too much to this job was there. After he disposed of the dress (which probably had to do with the plan, otherwise why would he need to dispose of it) he’d move to a specified location which he’d memorised and burned the slip of paper with the address on it. And from there he’d be receiving documents from a lady who he presumed he wouldn’t know. Then he’d give the documents to Auth, the very man who’d assigned him to pick them up. Perhaps because René was so low profile ti was for the better, thought he jitters of being asked to partake in a group event were almost overwhelming. René blinked and sighed out the air he’d been keeping in with anticipation. “C’mon René… focus… it’s just some fabric and some paper.” He spoke low to himself, almost like he was trying to soothe himself. Just some very expensive fabric and some very important papers. He hoped that everything would go alright.

Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne)

Post by Herdir 9/5/2018, 16:35

As minutes passed by, Auth was taking in the environment. Unlike Cora, however, he was not looking at guard posts, escape routes, or the likewise, since that was her job, not his. Instead, he was eyeing the nobles present so far, and those still making their entrance. Until now, he could tell most of the major ones by name, and a number of them he's talked to personally before. At the same time, he eyed a number of those generally looked at with fear, those that were recognized as centers of power. Much more interesting, though, most of them would have ordinarily not attended a party thrown by Marvin. Likely, they were here to see what he himself would do. Great. More onlookers.

At the same time, he took a mental note of Sevyne having arrived. She looked stunning, if unused to her attire. Of course, much like Cora, she was a woman of forged steel, not the glass flower most nobles would expect. Still, it was ever so interesting how the events of glass men and women so easily disarmed those more used to steel. It was all about context in a fight, and setting it to what you require was the most important factor in winning a battle. That's why he needed Sevyne to throw off the guards, and that's why he needed Cora to sneak about. All about setting the context. The battle would win itself soon thereafter.

The white of the hall was starting to tire his eyes already. Overly big, overly bright, overly pompous. Sigh. This would be one long night, given he'd have to spend most of it talking with Lord Marvin.

Speaking of which...

The rather corpulent man was making what he most certainly considered a grandiose entrance, walking slowly and with a bobbing, overly emphasized steps. Auth sighed silently. Like most of the nobles with a better aesthetic taste around, he was mildly disgusted by the man currently trying too hard to look imposing. Nobody said anything, for it would be rude, but most everyone knew it without a need for words. Still, Marvin seemed to either not notice, or not care. Now, his entrance would mark the formal beginning of the party. Time to see what second-rate speech he had.

"Hello and welcome, dear guests!" The lord was talking in a booming voice, gesturing very widely with his equally wide body. "I am honoured to be your host today, in this brightly lit hall of marble! Let us light up the night with our enjoyment!" Ugh. That was all Auth's mind had to say about that phrasing and choice of words. Ugh. "As such, without further ado, I declare the party started!" He was way too excited about all of this. "Music, please!"

Well, judging by the sound that started to fill the hall, at least the musicians hired were indeed first-class. Now, the Lord immediately went down the little podium he had made his announcement from, and stuck himself into a drink somewhere. Other nobles started talking to him, most of them of lower ranking, those who would suckle up to even one such as Marvin. Auth sighed again. The world of politics had two faces. One of them was this mockery of all that was the human intellect, and of all that was one's pride.

Still holding her hand, Auth tapped lightly into Cora's palm. This was the signal for her to start the mission. From there, everything would be triggers nestled within one another.

And then there was the other face, one of cold-blooded plotters and magnificent bastards able to sweet-talk you into kindly killing yourself, those who heard the thoughts of people districts away, and those that could make a hand movement and have a castle collapse. Ah, the magnificence of upper society, filled to the brim with the deadliest predators in the world, all carefully hidden behind these corpulent masses of flesh like Marvin.

In the end, this entire assassin business was almost surely not Marvin's own idea. Instead, Auth would have to figure out exactly whom was pulling strings here.

Regardless, the documents first, and after all, the party just started, right?

Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne)

Post by cornix 10/5/2018, 21:37

Cora spotted another redhead in the croud. So many. Including her temporary red hair right now. She was not sure if she liked it or not...but she did not want to waste her thing thinking about such earthly things if there were way more important matters at hand. Aka...stealing stuff. And not killing anyone! Annoying. Really really annoying. Killing people was so much more fun than stealing. But this was her mission now.

Mr. Evil himself made his rather pompous entrance. He held a half assed speech, basically telling everyone the party had started. They did not need anyone to tell that to them! They knew it themselves. After all the alcohol was already served.
Nec reminded Cora that alcohol itself did not make a party on its own and that she was not in a mercenary's Friday evening party but in a sheep's Saturday evening party. A major difference!

Cora felt Auth's tap and she looked at him sheepishly.
"That is the well spoken Lord Marvin!", she said with a high pitched voice then as she wanted to take another sip of her champagne she poured a bit on her dress and her non existant cleavage. Atleast that was a benefit, her dress was closed off more or less completly, her scars would be too revealing.
"Oh! I am such a clumsy person!", she said with an even higher pitched voice, "Let me go to the bathroom! Which way?", she asked the next waiter that came close to her. She put her glass on his tablet and then quickly went into the direction he pointed in.
She obviously knew beforehand were to go.

Cora went into the bathroom and was stunned by it. She had never been in any bathroom this fancy. She shook her head to get herself to focus again, there was no need now to be baffled by the beauty of marble. Or was it marble? She was not too well known with stones.
She locked the door and got rid of her dress. It was a dress that you could get off really easy. Thinking about it, for Auth this was probably nothing new. She could bet on that all his women always wore easy to get off dresses when he brought them somewhere. Cora did not want to think of what usually happened after they got rid of their dresses.

Underneath her dress was simple dark grey clothing. Tight pants, a tight long sleeved shirt, the shoes stayed the same, it's not like they were seen under her dress anyway.
Cora pulled a hood over her hair and covered her face with an easy mask. The hairstyle was solid enough to not easily fall apart when she put on her hood and even if the mask would destroy her makeup only a little bit Al Sanya later on would fix it again. That's what she hoped atleast.
Cora was wondering why they did not choose a wig for her...would have been easier.

She went towards the window and opened it. Cora looked downwards into the dark, nothing. She would just hope that the person downstairs would catch her dress. Cora threw it down and went back into the bathroom.
She put her ear on the door to listen for the redhead.

Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne)

Post by Sevyne Reizbar 12/5/2018, 00:34

Sevyne is typically a serious person, someone quick to anger and easily triggered by the most miniscule of comments, however there are a few exceptions. This was one of them.

When the pompous noble known as Marvin came out of his mouse hole, Sevyne nearly  burst out into laughter. Thankfully she managed to get a drink in time and down it to hold the jovial noise off. He was a sad excuse for a man-clearly out of shape and dressed in excessively extravagant clothes that seemed to serve no purpose, other than to show off how much money he had, just like the very ballroom she was standing in.  His gait was probably the most ridiculous thing about him, he walked in a way that tried to be imposing, but was so half-assed and terrible that a newborn wouldn't be afraid of it.

Then when his speech came along she almost choked on her own bile, at how plain dumb it was. He clearly was trying to  show off his money using dumb terms like "brightly lit hall of marble" as if the audience didn't already see how bright the damn place was. Of course when he finished declaring the party started as if it wasn't started already, she gave the most sarcastic clap she could just praying that no one would compliment it. Of course that's when she heard Auth's lover speak about how his speech was well said, before pouring her champagne on her dress and running off to the bathroom like a ditz.

She quickly realized this was the symbol and set out to do the task she was given, and good at. Causing a distraction. She had made her plan of attack long ago, almost as soon as Auth told her, her role in fact. Her plan was simple one, one so simple that anyone with enough strength and natural temper could do it.

She was going to make the nearest pretty boy noble squeal, and squeal loudly at that, just like a terrified pig.

You see, she had positioned her self on the far wall away from the guards that were guarding the break in spot on purpose, that way they would have to move the farthest away from their position giving the thief a decent frame to slip through. Scanning the crowd she soon spotted one of the younger nobles that had been leering at her earlier, even going as far as to lean against the same wall as her just to get a better view, whilst sipping his wine like he had just won some prize.  His mistake.

Moving at a quick pace she would quickly head in the general direction of the Marvin guy making it look like she wanted to talk to him, of course when she got close enough to her target she purposely bumped into him-making his Champagne spill all over the front of her dress. Stopping in her tracks the temperature in the room would suddenly seem to drop a bit, and even the musicians began to play a more haunting tune making the whole scenario perfect. The noble boy, feeling confident decided to speak up. "Ah! My apologies, let me take you to the washroom and help you clean this up milady."

He wouldn't see it coming.

Within a flash she had already pinned the man to the wall he was leaning on, the sound of broken glass resonating as she held the broken shard of a cup near his throat, pure fury in her eyes. "You clod! This dress cost me a months pay and you just go and spill champagne on it? Maybe I should spill something red all over your suit in return- hows about it?" She would press the shard closer to his throat as she said this to enforce her point.

His eyes would instantly widen in fear as he felt the cold glass pressed against his throat. "W-wait please! I'll pay you back in full!" Seeing no response from her- he would instantly start squealing. "GUARDS! GUARDS! get this crazy wench off of me!"

Sevyne would hear loud footsteps coming from behind, smirking as she did so- she had done her part, now she just had to hope that the thief would do theirs.

Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne)

Post by Sprw201 14/5/2018, 14:48

René’s thoughts were interrupted by billowing fabric raining down from the sky. It stunk of dead roses and washed up players drunk on alcohol that they valued so much. He almost choked on the amount of fabric threatening to smother him. The… front? Of the dress was slightly damp, and reeked of champagne. He wrinkled his nose in disgust. Dresses were difficult to figure out. Too much fabric for no other purpose except for annunciate a desired form. Whatever. Time to get rid of this stupid thing. The color of the dress was putrid now that he examined it, who would ever wear this?

Eh. He dug through his pockets, fingertips searching for the matches. They closed around the familiar box, the strike patch along the side greeting his touch like sandpaper. He withdrew it and tapped the compartment open, sliding a match out. The dress would burn a little better now too… alcohol had a high burn point. René knelt beside the dress and struck the match along the box and the familiar crackle of fire spouted from the match. His fingers released the tongue of fire, which eagerly ate away at the dress, however the sudden flowering of light alerated a nearby guard. Shit. He should’ve thought about that. He was too focused on not getting caught.

“Hey you! What do you think you’re doing?” The guard rushed over, a grimace spread over his face. René dropped further to the ground, attempting to act drunk. “Y-you mean this isn’t the party??” René said purposefully stumbling over the words. The guard sighed. René felt sorry for the poor guy. He’d have to be dealing with reckless party-goers all night. The guard crouched near René. “Here lemme help you up? I can show you your way back.” “I’m fine out here though.” René didn’t hesitate when he punched the guy in the face. The guard reared back in pain and perhaps surprise. René quickly ran over and made sure the guy was knocked out, he gave him a kick for good measure. No witnesses. Not now.

He glanced back at the dress, which was… burning a little slower than he would’ve liked. He’d have to wait for it to finish and then head over to his next pick-up point. He double checked his surroundings. Nobody else. Which might mean backup was on the way. “Tch.” Nothing he could do about that. Leaving was probably a better idea. In his briefing with Auth, the older man had told him that he was to go to a restaurant called “The Dance” it was in Mitras, and although a popular venue, would supply a large crowd that René could easily blend into. He wondered why Auth had told him to go there second too, sure it’d be busy but that just meant there’d be more witnesses to the documents he was supposed to receive. They were to be kept hidden and only given to Auth once he showed up. It’d be waiting for hours just for some paper. Some really important paper.

Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne)

Post by Herdir 14/5/2018, 21:28

Cora commented on the astounding speech of Marvin, then proceeded to pour her glass onto herself. Perfect excuse for running to the bathroom, and Auth was amazed at how well she managed to play her role. She probably hated every moment of it, but her performance was flawless. He fought a grin off of his face. Not yet. Grins would come later.

Soon after Cora's departure, Sevyne proceeded to drop her drink onto herself as well, but in a wildly different manner. In the span of a few seconds, she went from a calm walk into a psychotic killing attitude. Obviously, the boy she was threatening was currently peeing himself, by the looks of things. Obviously, he was screaming for the guards. And, obviously, the guards had all been alerted to that and ran right over. How Sevyne would deal with that, was yet to see. Unlikely anything eventful would still happen, but this was plenty timeframe for Cora already.

He didn't afford himself a look in the direction of the bathroom. That could have tipped off some of the more observant people present. Instead, he simply trusted Cora to have already dissipated into the bowels of this immense building.

As chaos was starting to unfold, guards to rush, noblewomen to scream as if they themselves were the ones attacked, and so much more, Auth focused his senses. At least five more people in the room were doing the exact same thing as him, and they were all clearly aware of each other. With two, Auth was on good terms, perhaps even allies, as much as that word could be used in politics. The other three, he knew of from talk. Any could have been the puppet-master orchestrating Marvin, including the 'trustworthy' ones. Scarier still, it could've been none of them.

Auth sighed. Sevyne was working her magic. Cora was working her magic. Rene likely was working his magic. Al-Sanya will soon work her magic. Him, however, had no magic of use here. He was here as little more than a glorified wall ornament of sorts, here to look pretty and little less. In all truth, his presence in the heist was simply required to get Cora here.

That being said, it didn't mean he was entirely useless. After all, this was the first step of many to come on this particular path, and looking at the road ahead was always a good idea. When the chaos was over, Auth had to start prodding at Marvin. He started walking, towards the large man's direction, masking it as coming in to see what exactly caused this whole scene and what would unfold.

Time to see what the rest of the night had in store.

And hopefully learn some things of the future, too.

Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne)

Cora listened to the chaos unfold. There was a woman screeming, a boy screeming. The boy seemed to be the one getting threatened by the woman while...the woman just seemed angry. Hopefully this would be distraction enough.
She could also hear the guards running into the general direction. Good. Cora opened the door slightly and peeked around the corner. Noone. Great. She quickly went further into the inside of the building. At every corner she stopped and looked around it with a small hand mirror. Rather useful and probably one of the only few useful equipments any of these fancy women had. Apart from maybe a nail file that could be used as a rather efficient knife.

She reached the last corner after which the hidden servants' staircase was. According to a plan it was supposed to be hidden 'inside' a closet. Cora approached the door and listened on it. Shit. Steps. She could hear steps. One or two people...she listened again. Three. It was three people. Going by the weight...
Nec took over. Three. One slower than the others. Two walking more quiet than the others, one heavier. Probably servants, possibly guard. Hiding positions:

Cora looked around, it was a simple corridor, no windows to the sides, no things she could hide inside. The next door was too far away.

Hiding positions: One. Jump.

Cora jumped onto the closet, making as little sound as possible and stayed on top. She did not move, her breath was as shallow as it could be.
THe door beneath her opened with a rather loud creak, out came as expected two waiters and a guard. The guard went with them, he looked around, he was doing his job. But he was not looking up. A rather...common mistake. She scoffed at him mentally.
Before either of the three were out of her sight Cora had jumped down and went through the door. This way she would avoid another creak which might have alerted someone.

Cora started sneaking upwards. Marvin's office should be in the first floor. Atleast...according to plan. The good thing was his general...well his attitude. He would not hide any of the documents as he was sure of the security in his house. Too bad...it was just too bad that his opponents had hired a mercenary who's literal job it was to test out guards. Well, one of them.
She left the hidden staircase and went onto her way towards the office. The amount of guards increased the closer she got and she had to avoid two of them by hiding in other rooms or beneath tables that fortunately enough for her were decorated with a blanket.
From a bit further away Cora looked at the office. One guard was directly in front of it. No way around this one, given their general training he would not leave his post easily.
There was another one pacing around.
Cora snuck into the room behind her, she quietly opened it and almost got a heart attack by what expected her inside.
"Laura? Is that you? Is Marvin already downstairs? Is he mad with me for not being able to attend? I would...but you know...I am soon ready!", a woman spoke from the bed. Her voice was soothing, Cora could not tell her age or more or less any facial features as the room was completly dark.
"Laura?", she asked again.
Cora coughed slightly, "I am sorry, Ma'm.", she coughed again, her voice differed slightly as she allowed Nec to speak, "I just wanted to take a look after you."
"Are you sick, Laura dear?", her voice sounded worried.
"No, Ma'm. I had to instruct the others and I talked too much."
"That does not sound like you at all, dearest! You talk so much usually! How can that affect you?", she chuckled.
Cora laughed nervously, "I guess I have been a bit out of training, Ma'm"
The woman chuckled slightly, "Will you come to the bed, dearest?"
Cora froze. The room was dark. Very so, even, but going next to the bed might still give away her cover, esspecially as she was not wearing servant's clothing but rather a skin suit.
"I would rather not, Ma'm. If it was not the talking but a cold I caught...I would not want to get you sick."
The woman sighed and then proceeded to talk with the same soothing voice as before, "That is a good idea, Laura dear, we would not want to threaten Marvin's son after all, right?"
Cora could not tell the woman's shape or what she was doing but she could guess that she looked down on herself with a huge belly.

If we kill her, does it count as a double kill?

Cora strategically ignored Vex's comment.

If they kill us, does it count as a triple kill?

Cora proceeded to ignore him.

More importantly: if we get pregnant, does it count as a quadruple kill?
Shut your goddamn mouth. Us getting pregnant my ass! We don't want to have anything to do with that part of being a functional human being! What the hell, man, shut up! We are doing a mission here and you are almost ruining it with your comments!
Chill. Hit a sweet spot, eh?
You fu-
Cora. Focus.

Cora took a deep breath.
"Lord Marvin has opened the celebration, Ma'm. So far everything is going well, I just wanted to check on you."
"You are so kind and caring, Laura dear.", she said happily.
"Thank you, Ma'm, I shall take my leave now."
"And I shall continue resting", she chuckled again and Cora could hear her move sideways.
This was going to get risky. There were two more ways to enter Marvin's office. One through this bedroom and another through the window. The one through the window was risky enough on its own, if the window was closed she could not open it without breaking it...which was going to be too obvious. And...there was a woman in this room. Yes, she was rather...sleepy and could be knocked out without a problem but...still.
Cora opened the door and pretended to leave, instead she stayed inside the room and waited a few moments. The woman did not seem to move any further. Her eyes had adjusted to the light a bit better now and she could atleast tell apart the other door.
Cora snuck throughout the room, she made no sound, stayed close to the walls and froze motionless each time the woman made the slightest of sounds.

She looked at the bottom of her designated door. No light. Fortunate. She could open the door without letting in any light into this room. Said and done. The moment she had entered the other room Cora relaxed. Atleast...for a bit. It was time to find the documents now, without alerting either the woman to the side or the guard in front of the door.

She looked around and took two capes and placed it in front of the bottom of the doors to not let light through. Before she placed the second one she decided to not place it after all, like this she was able to tell if the guard moved from the outside with a simple look, it was way more important than them maybe looking down and seeing the light. If they would be able to tell it from the outside at all.
She lit one of the candles around and started looking around, everything was neatly stacked on top of one another. Good, easier to put back later.

Cora looked at the desk, there were three stacks of paper on the sides and a few documents in the dead middle as if they had just been written. She took a closer look.
"Are you kidding me?", she whispered unhearable for anyone but herself. Lord Marvin was really a...rather...outgoing man. Good for her. She did not have to search for long after all.
There were two options now: writing the documents down and thus not leaving any trace behind of that she had ever been here...oorrr...taking them. Writing them down was the preferred option. Before doing either of it Cora opened the window, keeping herself an escape route open.
Just as she had opened the window she could hear a bit of commotion coming from the room with the woman.
She appeared to say the name Laura again.
"Shit.", was all that Cora could say, no time to waste now. She closed the candle, took the documents, took some random ones from one of the other stacks and placed them in the middle.
She jumped out of the window, it was a long jump but Cora made it down safely, not even scratching herself on anything. Atleast nowwhere where it would be visible later on.

She had disappeared into the bushes faster than the guards had entered into the office. They were not bad guards after all, she thought to herself and went to where Al Sanya would wait for her. It was now her time to get her ready and into the party again. Cora's interesting part was done.

Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne)

Post by Sevyne Reizbar 15/5/2018, 23:56

Sevyne didn't waste much time threatening the man, she had done what she needed and she figured the thief should've already slipped through by now. So she quickly dropped him, making sure that he landed on his ass and was looking up at her in fear, her visage still showing how angry she was at the man. Even though it was an act, she still was rather pissed that the dress got ruined.

"I expect recompense for this transgression and then some, I would not like to have to see your cowardly face again after this, are we clear?" Of course the man was immediately nodding away, fearing that he might invoke the red-heads wrath once again otherwise.  "Good"

Happy with his response, she would quickly turn on her heel and begin walking away seeing the guards just standing there not knowing what to say, and looking rather dumb in the process- most likely afraid of being man-handled by the woman who had attacked the noble boy without so much as an iota of hesitation. The room was nearly silent even the musicians decided to stop playing ,and it felt like the tension could be cut like a knife, Sevyne rolled her eyes and decided to speak up.

"Are you just going to stand there sucking your thumbs, or are you actually going to guard? A thief could've snuck in ten times by now ya'know." The guards may have been good at well..guarding, but it seemed they were rather incompetent at other tasks, she couldn't really blame them though, they were MP's after all.

The gurads quickly gained their barings and scrambled back to their previous positions finding no need to stand there anymore as the issue seemes to be resolved already. Sevyne without hesitation walked over to the bathroom and entered making sure to scan the room for Auth's girlfriend whilst doing so, of course the room instantly came alive again as she slammed the door. When she got in she began smiling like an idiot once she saw that the Auth's lover was no longer in the vicinity, showing that she had sucsefully broken in.

As she turned on the water and began to clean up, she just hoped that what Auth had said was true and that this task would be better for the people of the walls, because if not..she had gone against against everything she stood for, just to take a shot at some pompous noble. The thought that she could go against all her morals and actually enjoy it..that truly made her afraid.

Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne)

Post by Sprw201 17/5/2018, 03:38

It was good to finally be inside. Outside it was cold, wet, and gross out. Nobody wanted to be outside in that. He’d made it to “The Dance” relatively safely, avoiding main roads in case some drunk MPs were out. Some were in the vicinity and sneaking around on a dark side road would always be suspicious. He’d managed to finish his job with burning the dress and he’d hoofed it over to the renowned building.

It was hard to believe that his job was only to dispose of a dress and to receive documents only to give them away without reading them. And another thing weighed on René heavier than the facts about his job.

He was bribed to do it.

It wasn’t even like he had a use for the money that Auth had given him…. Except for one trivial use. He wanted to commemorate three specific people.

Ana Zealia
Winston Anson
Cindy Alfons

Three people didn’t seem like a lot… but he wanted them to be remembered as people who helped humanity. He’d been thinking recently about the events that happened during Alan’s funeral. Alan would be remembered by those that knew him and so in turn… René thought. Rather knew that it was up to him to keep their memories alive. Their ideals. To preserve them and maybe even use them to help further how he thought. Remembering the dead was hard. Protecting them was harder.

In addition to being bribed, Auth has also given him an unmarked envelope that was pressed tight up against René’s chest, tucked neatly inside his jacket pocket. “Open it only if you feel like betraying me.” These were the last words that Auth had said to him after briefing him on mission details.
The overwhelming curiosity leaned over his shoulder. “Open it.”
“I can’t…” René whispered. It felt like it was just him and the phantom in “The Dance.”
“Do it.” He swore it’s clawed hands closed around his shoulders. “Aren’t you begging to see what’s inside? Don’t you want to know.”
“I do…”
Open it. Open it. Open it. Open it. Open it. Open it. Open it. Open it. Open it.  OPEN IT.

“I can’t…”
Quaint. But why don’t you open it? Isn’t it answers you seek? Isn’t it?
“I do… but opening it would mean betraying a man whose put his trust in me for the succession of this mission.”
You’re so willing to trust and yet you know nothing about him. Why is that?
Because I’m gullible, wicked, broken, hurt. And most importantly… human. That’s what makes me, me.

He flagged a waiter down. “Excuse me? Do you have a menu?” The waiter nodded and René settled with a cheese plate that looked quite appetizing. If he was going to be there for a while, there was no sense in starving himself when he had so much time. If he got that desperate he did have reading material. Even though René refused to open that letter, it didn’t mean that he still wasn’t curious. In fact the curiosity only seemed to double in size, maybe even triple.

And then it started to itch. And it started to become annoying. He tried to ignore it. He sincerely did. The cheese plate was deposited in front of him and his thoughts dissolved, mind taken over by hunger now. There’s the human part for you. He knew his money was being used in a good quality place at least. He’d been tipped off that apparently one of Auth’s relatives owned the place. He didn’t know them. But at least he could trust the reliability of this place.

“Can you?”
I sure as hell hope so. René contented himself with digging in greedily to the plate in front of him.

Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne)

Post by Herdir 17/5/2018, 21:26

And so, things calmed down. Auth had to give it to Sevyne, she was good at her job. If only more garrison members were like her, and not like the other trigger happy, human killy ones he knew. An afterthought passed through his head, of a blonde that he treated to dinner, and that taught him the proper protocol of artillery usage, but he quickly wavered it away. Sevyne was stunning as she was, and he didn't need to start associating her with other women in his life. He may end up getting funny ideas otherwise.

Now, anyway, he had other, much more pressing matters to attend. Namely, angering the hell out of Marvin, making sure he's not tempted to go back to his quarters, and preferably pull his tongue a bit to see who's really behind his recent political moves. If cold blooded assassination counts as political move, anyway. So for now, he merely approached him and the bunch of asskissers he had.

"Lord Marvin!" Auth greeted with a bow, both too long to be considered inappropriate, but too short to be respectful. "Amazing ballroom you've got. Absolutely blinding, a real eye catch!" Kitsch, that is. One of the people in Marvin's retinue had a smile flash across his face at the joke, and Auth could spy a few more elegant nobles smirk in their drinks discreetly.

"Why thank you!" Of course, Marvin didn't get the insult. Who would've guessed. "Auth, is it?" Such poor taste. Marvin didn't agree with Auth's agenda, but he certainly knew who he was. They merely never got the chance to talk face-to-face before outside of grander meetings. "So I've heard you left the Survey Corps to become a full-time politician. Were the titans getting a bit much?"

Auth mentally sighed. At least the man could try making it seem like he's not trying to purposefully insult him. Well, what can one do. "Oh, no, it wasn't the titans. I merely realized the wisdom of great people such as yourself, that never even bothered joining the military. They knew it'd be a waste of talent." Indeed, such people would have so little talent they would indeed be a waste for the military to feed.

"Ah, I see!" Marvin's voice was boisterous. He took it as a compliment, the idiot. "So, what's bringing you here?"

"Why, it was something of utmost importance!" Marvin's eyes narrowed immediately. Even he understood what Auth was hinting at. At the same time, some of the nobles around shifted position discreetly, likely to listen better. "With a party like this, I just couldn't let the opportunity slide."

The corpulent man was starting to get uncomfortable. He threw this party as a sign of defiance, and he knew it. The fact he was stressing out now simply pointed even more at the fact someone else was pulling the strings. "I see, I see." His feet had changed position, subtly leaning towards the staircase leading into the core of the building. Auth smiled.

"I have to say, this was a wonderful idea!" And certainly not yours. "I do have a curiosity, though. What motivated you to throw it? To what do we owe this opportunity to enjoy ourselves?" To whom, more like. And by enjoy not meaning what you'd think.

Marvin stressfully looked towards the side of the hall for a split second. As if by magic, a noble Auth knew by name, Lady Atatya Maril, quickly turned her back towards Marvin from across the room. Of course, she wasn't the one Marvin was looking at. Auth couldn't see the exact person, but this reaction was simply too theatrical and too forced to have been the real deal. Now, among the leftovers, who could it have been...
"Uh..." Marvin was stuttering. Given his earlier show of confidence, this was rich. "I was simply... talking with some friends and Na... um... naturally we reached the conclusion everyone could use some relaxation. Yeah." Marvin nodded to himself. "And we decided that given I had this amazing hall recently done, might as well use it, right?" He chuckled nervously.

Hm. Na-, huh? Natalia? Nash? Nachman? Nasar? Auth knew a whole bunch of people by that name that could be the culprit here. Of course, they also could be merely a link in a chain of deception, which was the likely situation. Lords Nachman and Nasar were on the side of the room Marvin had looked to earlier, so they would be good starting points. Auth sipped his wine, and fleetingly heard Al-Sanya's voice, crystal clear in the hall.

"Oh my!" She stepped back a bunch of times, and chuckled nervously. "I... um... may have drank a bit much." She an exaggeratedly embarrassed look, the kind that said 'I'm not really embarrassed, but isn't it cute if I look like this?'. "And I might... slightly poisoned myself. Lethally." Of course, everyone in the hall knew what she dealt in. Also, of course, a whole bunch of people were suddenly relived they weren't marked for death. "I'll... quickly run home and take an antidote. I'll be back in a flash!"

With that, she spun on her heels, green dress twirling around her body, and made for the exit with quick strides. The guards didn't try stopping her, especially after hearing the situation, and so she was out of sight. With that, Auth begged his leave from Marvin, who was more than happy to oblige, and went back to await Cora's return. The last piece of today's part of the puzzle was slowly falling into place, and hopefully the night would finish without a hitch.

Well, also hopefully that thought didn't jinx it.

Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne)

Post by cornix 17/5/2018, 21:59

It did not really take long until Al Sanya showed up. Cora gave her the documents without a word. She happily took them and helped the rather unhappy Cora into her new old dress. A few remarks about her slightly ruined makeup were made but as easily fixed as Cora could ignore them. Her hair was also fixed a bit more in place. There was no way she could go into the party with a few twigs in it. Cora insisted that it would give her a bit of a 'wild' look but Al Sanya was not pleased at all with her opinions about what was fashionable and what was not.

Al Sanya then presumably went to 'the dance'. Cora was rather happy to not see that horrible woman any further, she had tortured her enough for today. Or for any day for that matter. No need to elaborate this.

Before Cora got even close to the guards again she went towards one of the marble bird fountains and splashed a bit of water on her dress, it would atleast seem like it was a bit ruined from the champagne from before and not like she genuinely had a new dress on.

Cora went towards the guards, slightly moving from side to side and giggling all to herself.
"Oh...OH! I have found what I was searching for!", she said with a high pitched voice.
"I have found...the entrance! Oops. I seem to have had too much alcohol", she continued to giggle and went very close to one of the guards.
"Aren't you handsome? Why don't you get me back inside, eh? I am sure there is some space for us!", she whispered but the guard pushed her away a little bit.
"Ma'm. Please.", he said, visibly uncomfortable, "Just go back inside."
Cora stared at his face up close then frowned at him, "You! You are not Auth! How dare you fool me!", her tone was angry, "How could you?", she shook her head and went inside.

And...there...goes...our...last...bit...of...diiigniiiityyyyyy
Shut up. We get paid for this.
People get paid for all sorts of stuff. I just never thought we would go into the branche that sells bodies to men.
We have always sold our body, even if it was just our fighting ability.
That's what they all say and then they are pregnant.
Shhhhhhhhhh, kids. Calm down.

Cora entered the ballroom again. Too bad she had to enter this odd place. She just wanted to go home. That to be said...she turned around and snitched some of the food waiters were carrying around. Atleast she got food for this.
As she made her way to Auth she continued taking all sorts of little snacks from all sorts of waiters. Those may or may not have included more alcohol to forget the way she looked.

"Auth! Auth!", she said a bit too loudly when she finally saw him, a few breadcrumbs were still around her far too red lips, "Authy!", she waved over to him, "I am so sorry, I seemed to have gotten lost with all of those...", she took another piece of bread from one of the waiters, this one had tuna on it. Or...atleast some sort of fish, Cora could not tell the difference and as much as Nec would love to know every single bit they tried today they could not. They were not really used to high quality food so they just enjoyed the taste without knowing what they put in their mouths.
She giggled and placed a hand on his shoulder, playing with his hair, "Oh Auth. The alcohol seems to have gotten to my head!", she giggled again, "Did you talk to all...", she waved her hand around, "Important people?"
Cora suddenly placed a hand in front of her mouth, "Oh no. I am embarassing you, am I not?", she sighed, looked down on the floor and then looked deep into his eyes, "Forgive me, Sir! I should not have drunken this much!", she kept her innocent look on for a few seconds before starting to giggle again. Cora leaned in close to his ear.
"The stuff is at your aunt. I was not caught but almost. They should not know it was me but they know something got stolen. If they don't know now, they will know later."
She moved away from him, putting on a sheepish grin. "Don't you want me to do that to you, Auth?", she asked with the most seductive voice a year-long mercenary could fake.
Cora turned around to see another waiter passing by with more champagne and she snitched one of the glasses from his tablet.
"What do you think, eh?", she asked, finished the glass and winked at him.

She could not hate herself more right now.

Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne)

Post by Sevyne Reizbar 18/5/2018, 00:48

It wasn't long before Sevyne came out of the bathroom having at least cleaned up somewhat and thankfully she wasn't spared much attention this time only a couple of uneasy glances, a few even looked slightly impressed with her little charade she had preformed earlier. It wasn't long before she grabbed another drink, sipping away at it rather casually as she looked around the room wishing for something to pass the time with, sadly there wasn't much. She didn't really know anyone to dance with, and talking to some of these people would be worse than drinking poison. So Sevyne decided to do what she was originally doing, leaning against a wall and acting like a total loner.

Sevyne briefly listened to mystery man himself indulging in conversation with the obese oaf known as Marvin even raising an eyebrow at the number of hidden insults being thrown back and forth, even more surprised to find out that Auth was a former Survey Corps member, even briefly wondering if he was any god in a fight. Of course she quickly dispelled that thought, she could have a friendly 'beat the tar out of him' day another time, well if there was another time that is.

She really didn't even know why he had picked her for this task, sure she was going there and all- but with the connections he seemed to have he could have just as easily found someone just as qualified if not more qualified for a task as miniscule as 'make a ten second distraction.' She wouldn't be able to ponder much longer though as a woman in the crowd suddenly spouted off something about lethally poisoning herself, and at first she didn't even really understand the statement at all, but when she ran out-Sevyne assumed that it had something to do with the heist.

Of course this would almost immediately be proven true as Auth's unnamed lover suddenly came rushing in looking as dopey as ever, taking food from waiters left and right, shoving it into her mouth like some kind of animal as she ran over to Auth. Sevyne stared at the two of them with not only bemusement, but bewilderment.

The woman was obviously flirting with Auth, even going as far as to whisper something into his ear before backing away and speaking of..scandalous thing that made Sevyne flush a, shade of red that could've rivalled her hair. Yet none of the other nobles seemed to even care, simply continuing on as if a woman speaking of bedroom talk, in the middle off a ballroom was a common occurrence.

The woman was so..perverse, it made her wonder how someone so ditzy was successfully able to sneak into a highly guarded castle and steal super secret assassin documents. She was either really good at acting, or she's literally got god sitting on her shoulder and helping her. She just prayed that it was the former. Even with how unused to how all these nobles talked so freely about...private things, Sevyne couldn't help but to begin to form a smile at the womans antics, finding her ditziness to be somewhat entertaining.

Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part II - Haunt (Closed: Cornix, Herdir, Sprw, Sevyne)

Post by Sprw201 21/5/2018, 03:51

The paper of the letter crumpled underneath his fingers. Against his better judgment he just had to know what Auth had written him that he couldn’t read and if he did it meant betrayal. He popped open the lip of the envelope and slid out the folded paper within it. He read what Auth had wrote. Absorbing it all.
Rene Alfons,

You have been bribed to do an unlawful job. The bribe was generous enough, so it is unlikely that insufficient payment was the reason you opened this. More likely, you feel like what you are doing is wrong.

And, in truth, it is.

However, it is a smaller evil, with its purpose being exposing a noble that had ordered the assassination of others in front of the law. The documents you will be handed represent our only way to link him to his crimes. What you are doing is unjust, but in the name of justice. It is simply the law among nobility, a pure form of power law, where the strong prey on the weak and strength is righteousness.

Thus, you are here as an instrument of my strength against that of the noble, in an attempt to put forth a more moral method of seeing things. In order to change the game, one must win, and in order to win, one must play by the rules in place.

I am sorry for having deceived you until now, but I could not be sure. Revealing any bit of information over the strict requirement might have been too much. Someone more evil would have not opened the letter, afraid of poison inside it. However, you trusted me once.

Please, trust me twice, and keep to your role.

Glory to Humanity,
Auth vi Rauco

The shattering bitterness that flowed within René was overwhelming for only a few short moments. He was being used, but what Auth said in his last words of the letter, was true. Possibly too true to believe. Once trust was shattered, it was so hard to build it back, lest it be as strong as it once was. Betrayal could change a person. His fist clenched the letter into a ball and he shoved it deep into his pocket. He’d burn it later. Now he had to play the waiting game.

It felt like an eternity before a woman tapped him on the shoulder, shocking him out of his daze. He noticed several patrons looking quite shocked. She must be somebody important. She had deep blue eyes and shockingly bright red hair. Looks like there were far more red haired people out there than René thought. “Hey you alive?” She spoke in a carefree tone and René noticed that she was wearing a bright green ballroom gown. She had to be the person who would give him the documents. “Come with me, I need to talk to you about your behavior.” He nodded, “uh.. sure... “ He stood up and followed her to a back room further in “The Dance.” Walking past the various patrons inside the restaurant, he noticed they were contented with this women’s reason for dragging him away. They turned back to their food or whatever they were doing. So far so good.

Once the door was close, the women didn’t bother introducing herself. Probably for the better. She handed him the documents. “Make sure these get to Auth.” René’s hands closed around the slips of paper. “You’re not to read these, got it?” he nodded vigorously. “And no need to worry about your food, it’s on the house tonight.” So she was probably to owner of “The Dance.”
“You can head out the back door once you’re ready. I don’t think he’s going to come meet you here.” So it turned out that now René had to track the guy down. He exited the building and checking both ways went back towards the general direction of Marvin’s place. And then he smacked face first into a Military Policeman who was obviously drunk. “Hey watch where you’re going!” “S-sorry, wasn’t watching where I was going.” The Mp stood taller. “Obviously not! What’s a kid like you doing out this late? Shouldn’t you be back home with your mother.” René was still taller than the other guy, and obviously older with his 5 o’clock shadow. Man some MP’s just ruined the majesty Alan had tried to set up. “Sir i’m of legal drinking age. And it’s not even that late-” “HEY SHUT IT! You’re not authorised to talk back to a man who works for the King!’ “o...kay…?” René was wildly confused by this. “Let me search you,” the MP said, starting to assert more authority. René didn’t want to be searched, but the guy had a rifle. There wasn’t much of a choice. If he ran he might get shot but if the guy was drunk there wasn’t any way he could aim that. Not lethally at least. “U..Um…” “What is it kid? Are you gonna barf or something?” “N-no. But I’ll have you know you’re talking to..” “To whom?” Shit… only really one way to get out of this.. “TO THIS!!” René kicked the chap as hard as he could and bolted. He wasn’t gonna chance those documents being found and he could at least put up a distraction if he was gonna run. He could hear the MP shouting a string of curses in the background. And he heard the rifle being loaded and aimed. At least if he died tonight, he’d die knowing the truth about the heist.
