The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty The First Battle to Retake Trost District

Post by Spaizman 4/9/2018, 05:24

From the top of the wall, the offensive squads had just descended down into the district and the operation had officially begun, a clock somewhere likely ticking the beginning of the evening sun. Standing atop the wall with the second wave, Anton stood at the front of his Emergency Response Team and prepared for the signal to advance. Part of him shook, remembering his brief involvement with the evacuation a few years back, seeing the Training Corps’ cadets flying through the air only to get grabbed or bit apart. He wondered if they’d suffer the same dilemma as the cadets did and run out of gas midbattle. Or would they be trapped and forced to hide until they were found or starved to death.

He glanced over to his squad mates, all of them entirely new to him after his previous ones refused to take part in front line operations. Part of him couldn’t fault them, knowing that they’d seen what he had just a few years before and had gone through the due process to get as far away as possible. Even still, the feeling of them leaving still stung like betrayal and the thought that he’d have to command a team of green soldiers had brought great uneasiness. But if this was to be their first operation in the field, then it was meant to be. Anton drew his swords from their scabbards in anticipation for the signal before calling back to them, “Stay behind the offensive squads and watch for red smoke signals!”

The four of them saluted nervously in reply, one of the boys’ faces pulled back and on the verge of tears while a girl, likely the same age, stared ahead with wide eyes. By appearances alone, they couldn’t be any older than sixteen. Despite there only being a three-year gap between them and himself, Anton couldn’t help but feel like it made all of the difference. He hadn’t seen any titan combat since the original battle, but it was enough to mentally age him by a handful of years. If they survived, perhaps they’d be in the same boat as himself.

With a loud boom that echoed across the top of the wall, the Emergency Defense Team leapt down the wall with the bulk of the Garrison’s defensive forces, accompanied by the Survey Corps and Military Police. As his anchors launched from his gear and flung him forward with his team, Anton could see the wall to his back and sides coloring with the shadows of thousands of soldiers falling into what could very well become the most disastrous operation in human history.

As ordered, he and the rest of the emergency response teams remained toward the middle of the formation in order to keep a lookout for red smoke signals. From the booms overhead and through the bright flashes flying through the air exploding into buildings and titans alike, he could tell the artillery fire had begun to rain down. As the foundations for multiple supply and defense bases had begun to get set, the battle truly began.

The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty Re: The First Battle to Retake Trost District

Post by cornix 7/9/2018, 19:52

A painful sigh escaped Cora's mouth as she put on her 3DM gear. Even though it has been a while since she escaped that horrifying cellar she had been held capture for over a week, her wounds were still healing, the bigger ones still slightly open or barely closed. The scar tissue that was slowly growing over the scars was still fragile and the stitches broke open or got ripped out if Cora moved too much.
Still, the pain from all that was nothing compared to what she had been through.
Cora turned around and took a look in the mirror hanging on the door. Her 3DMG was no conventional one. It had been adjusted to how she had wanted it. A few straps broadened, some others removed, the leather's colour changed to black. The cannister holding gas was bigger than the normal one, while the huge boxes at her hips were replaced with much smaller, slimmer ones, without giving up on a single blade it can hold.
Cora dusted her pants off and stared at herself. Instead of wearing a normal shirt or the like she had simply wrapped bandages around her chest. She looked at the shirt lying on her bed, thinking about putting it on one last time but decided against it. Her wounds would open with the slightest movement with her 3DMG, her cloth would get stuck, soaked with blood, it would dry up and she would have to rip it out afterwards. Apart from that...she would have to eventually get used to the fact that people were looking at her. Right now she also had the bonus of intimidating anyone that would see her scars, old and new, wounds, brandings, bruises. She never had had much of a problem with having a cut up body, shredded to bits, with barely any bit of skin left on her that had not been ripped open at some point...but...Cora looked at her face. The fresh new scar in her former, perfectly fine face stood more out than a polar bear in a desert.
It was more visible and painful to think of than the one running across her back even though it 'only' went from below her chin across her mouth and ended at the same height as her nose tip.
She ran a finger across it, some of the stitches were still present, a safety precaution, nothing more.
Cora moved her hand upwards and ran it through her hair, she had just gotten her hair cut into something better looking than whatever they had done to her in that cellar. (OOC: it's more or less Levi's haircut now)
She took a deep breath and opened the door, anxiously awaiting the events of the day.

Cora stood on top of the wall, a few of her Betas around her, waiting patiently for the commanders of the military to arrive. She had been informed and did know where her men should go, but a short briefing beforehand was still much appreciated.
So all she had to do right now was sit on the table, staring downwards into the district and contemplating life decisions.

The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty Re: The First Battle to Retake Trost District

Post by Spaizman 10/9/2018, 01:33

As one anchor reeled in and another launched, Anton sailed through the air with his feet forward and together like a javelin. As the high-explosive round of a cannon blasted a building ahead of him, his mind flashed back to Commander Pixis atop the wall when the plan had been laid out before them. Though Anton couldn’t see his face, he was sure that the look was either desperate or coldly acceptant of the coming horror.

The plan was laid out into three vital portions which, if executed correctly, would result in Trost being retaken. If that happened, it would be the first time in all history that humanity had ever recovered territory from the titans. The first time they’ve ever won in the first place. But, for such a historic claim to be made, there had to be a great risk.

The first step entailed elimination and encampment within Trost. Military Police, Garrison Regiment, Survey Corps, and Mercenary forces would lead a cooperative assault from the north and begin the immediate establishment of a defensive line, made up of supply bases, cannon platforms, ambush posts, and such. For that to happen however, there had to be two major waves, supported by reinforcements if thing went awry. The first wave, dubbed the Offensive Forces, would begin eliminating Titans from various strategic point from the north end of the city and begin expanding their claims southward, ensuring that titans didn’t get passed them in the meanwhile. As they attacked, cannons would lay suppressing fire on the titans and thin them out as much as possible.

The second wave, dubbed the Defensive Line Forces, would play two roles in the operation. One role was establishing and defending the defensive line from titans that got through or, if they made an appearance, the armored and colossal titans. The other was supporting the offensive line, ensuring the movement of resupply teams and forward bases. In addition to all of this, the individual operations would be personally overlooked by commanders or suitable substitutes along with the Commissariat Division.

Anton’s eyes refocused and he adjusted his movement to avoid the blazing building. He had to remind himself that step one was already underway and that the cannon fire could very well be the end of him if he got careless. He fired his back anchors into a roof away from the offensive before swinging along the side of a building and landing just a way behind the Offensive Forces. His four subordinates landed close by, silently thankful that they didn’t advance any further. All that was left for them to do was await a red signal flare, where they as the Emergency Response Team would move and assist. Until then, they could only stay alive while everyone else fought.

The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty Re: The First Battle to Retake Trost District

Trost. He was finally home, his abandoned, wrecked home. But nevertheless, it was still where he grew up. And someone had put together a plan to take it back from the invading Titans. Taking bad the lad sounded like a suicide mission to the red-headed scout. Lucky for him he’d come back from multiple missions that he’d dubbed suicide. The plan was complex, and it involved all three military branches as well as the local mercenaries. His mind wandered back to when he first met Cora. Such a peculiar soul. She might be here today. Which would be good because he trusted her. He hadn’t seen her in a while.

While wondering how she was doing, he strapped on his maneuver gear. The military had sent for every available soldier for this operation. They needed as much manpower as possible. He’d sent a letter to his cousin telling her about the mission. He’d actually gotten a reply back from her today. Saying that she was worried. They’d just reunited a few months ago, and the thought of losing him overwhelmed her. It was nice to have somebody care about your well being. As he walked to the wall between Maria and Trost, he engaged his 3DMG so he wouldn’t have to wait for a lift to the top of the wall. He was stationed on one of the curves of outer Trost. Part of the offensive team, he hustled towards his designated side.

According to the plans, he was to cut diagonally from his position inward taking down as many titans as he could. Flares would still be used to notify the defensive team, which would act as backup. He was overjoyed that he wasn’t in the defensive line. There was a lot of work involved in the position. Work he wasn’t prepared for. Taking down titans was simple enough though. Avoid arms and mouths. Hopefully he’d be okay.

As he arrived to the wall, he noticed that another squadron of scouts was to his right and a squadron of garrison were to his left. The rose jackets looked more nervous than René had ever seen them. He noticed a few had their chins tilted up, trying to put on a brave face despite the situation. The only thing that kept him from feeling like he was going to vomit was the fact that his comrades were there. He wasn’t alone. He was people he could trust behind him. And beyond that…. He felt comfortable with where he was. If he did end up getting eaten today, it would have been going out in glory. Fighting for humanity’s sake. He could live with that.
The breezy air that surrounded Trost was clean, but it was thick with nervousness and worry. Soon it might be filled with the scent of blood. René was sure that not everyone who entered the fray would come out unscathed, much less alive. They might not come out at all. He pinched himself by his wrist. This was no time to be freaking out! Just breathe. Focus… his home was on the line, and he was its first line of offense. They were going to take back Trost. Together.

It was maybe six or seven years ago that Vasily had visited Trost. But back then he had been with rest of Circus Curio’s group; Today he was with a bunch of unknown soldiers ready to kill and get killed by titans. From top of a wall, where Vasily and rest of his squad was positioned, was a great view. He tried spotting any places, which he might have visited in days gone pass. Unfortunately, the new lumbering residents had made too much of mess to find any familiar landmarks.

Another squad of Scouts was to his left: Vasily was hard pressed to find any friendly faces from their group either. And even farer to left – maybe Garrison(?) Hard to tell from this far. And he was under strict orders to not wander off! Earlier Vasily attempted chatting up his new teammates or cracking a joke to raise their spirits, yet he was ignored or promptly told to “Shut up” or “Piss off”. Must be the nerves, so he would not blame them!

And so Vasily was alone watching over the city. Bouncing on balls of his feet and waiting for orders to advance. Tonight’s plan had too many moving parts. Defence group had to defend a line and take care of resupplying among other things… Someone was going to check out the broken gate too. Fortunately, Vasily and team were to just sweep down and simply distract and kill titans. That was easy!

However, it had been too long since Vasily had gotten proper action. There was nothing glorious or exciting about odd jobs like finding missing pets and construction work. For last two weeks Vasily had been paving roads few kilometres westward from here. Pebbles, sand, block. Pebbles, sand, block. Pebbles, sand, block. Day after day the same dull pavement.

He shuddered at the thought of that horrendous labour. Still Vasily had a hunch that he might have to go back to pebbles, sand and blocks. But not tonight! Tonight, Vasily was to do something far greater! Something far more thrilling!

It was a very long time since he has ever been asked out of the Walls, of the confined space he has worked for some time. He was working back to back being absorbed in his work and made sure to be on top of everything, which was subject to conversations in many of the circles. He had a small handful of people he ever spoke to in a casual manner, Sevyne and the few people he was interested in recruiting some day. He made his way to the top of the wall that the summons was placed, when he arrived he already found the leaders he knew of and never could meet due to mission alignments. He smiled a bit seeing Cora, he had a very brief meeting he noted her scars and obvious injuries. He frowned a bit as he goes to check his bag for any bandages, he made sure to have something for every situation. Days of studying helped him improvized medical tools, anything extreme otherwise they will suffice with Bandages.

"Please excuse me asking but, would you mind me dressing those wounds? I think it would be better to have something over them might make it easier to recover..." He said as he walked up to Cora knowing the fact she was one of the few that he knew, he made sure to show them as he felt some ointment that was on him for emergencies. He didn't mind helping the Medics due what they need to, though in his new position the best he can do is give them with the beginning of what he understood was important. "I know that you may not accept this but, please let me tend to you when we are done at least..." He started to roll it back up as he checked his Bag for other useful survival equipment he had for his comrades. He rose to his feet and scanned the Districts, he remembered the plans he tried to draw them in his head as he felt something was quite risky though it was guaranteed in this situation. As someone that looked over what they had as reports and the stories, he was amazed to see the reports lined up. He watched the Soldier mobilize as he walked over to where he assumed the others in charge were, he wanted to make himself known. "Please excuse me but, may we go over the plans again? Before we make a charge maybe we could even adjust some parts of it."

A familiar voice appeared from behind. Who was that? Scitis? What that his name. She turned around, staring at him with cold eyes before deciding that it was in fact him. She smiled weakly, "Yes, I do mind you dressing to those wounds. They are going to rip open later anyway...", she inspected the few wounds she could see without moving too much, "Afterwards I will see. Maybe I will let you", she grinned, "If we are both still alive by then."

As he asked how the plan would be Cora simplified it in her own words.
"First we will kill everything behind that line. Secure it. All of that. That-", she layed her finger onto the map, pointing at where the line would be roughly, "we call the offensive line. The ones that kill. Then we have the defensive wave. Obviously defending said line. Supporting the offensive one in advancing. Your job...you were commisariat, right? You overlook the whole thing. Kill anyone that chickens out. Unless it's my people. If you touch my people I will personally feed you bit by bit to the ugliest titan I can find in Trost.", she looked into the round, "As a matter of fact that counts for any of you. You hurt my people, you will wish to be eaten by a titan compared to what I will do to you", a cold smile appeared on her face, "Anyway. Enough of that. Do you have any questions?", she said while turning around, making a hand movement to one of her betas.

Ludwig nodded, copied the same movement to someone else a bit further away from the wall and a bunch of mercenaries jumped down and joined the military in killing titans.
Cora turned back around, "I am just wondering though. How do you plan to close the gate? Do you just use a bunch of bricks to build your own wall?", she stared at them, curious about their answer.

The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty Re: The First Battle to Retake Trost District

Post by Spaizman 13/9/2018, 20:11

A red line of smoke shot straight into the sky and Anton immediately called out, “We’ve got a signal! Emergency Response Team, make route to the southwestern offensive line!” before firing a green signal toward the distress call and launching his anchors, letting his gear fling him into the air. His muscles already felt sore from the maneuvering, but they were all still in the heat of the battle which would determine humanity’s fate.

From behind him, he could tell that his four recruits were making a beeline after him, sticking close for what would be a dangerous fight. Already, they could see the carnage of the initial offensive. Bodies with bites taken out of them, limbs sticking out from under the rubble, and the occasional poor soul hit by friendly fire from the cannons. Anton wouldn’t be surprised if one of them were about to snap and attempt to escape to the wall. Worried, he shot a single anchor and let himself be pulled forward while using his gas to take a quick spin to check up on them. In the midst of his turn, he spotted one of them flying extremely low and lagging behind the group, “Sandusky! Get level with the rooftops!”

He couldn’t make out his face, but it was probably twisted in terror. Perhaps he overestimated himself when he signed up for emergency response or maybe he thought that he would only do standard patrols for would be emergencies. Either way, he was not prepared for an operation such as this. Another of the recruits, Lehmann, called back in her cracked voice, “Paul! Get yourself up!”

As his face was turned forward, Anton called, “Keep moving to the signal!” before launching an anchor at a tower and reeling around it back toward Sandusky, prepared to throw him as far forward as he could. Yet, as his three other recruits passed him by, he caught sight of the horrified look on Sandusky’s face. He was so unfocused, out-of-touch, and out of the moment. His eyes brimmed with tears as he looked up to Anton, his mouth open and teeth grinding up against each other. Anton barely caught sight of his eyes shifting toward an alley before an abnormal launched itself from it and caught Sandusky by his leg between its teeth. Its hands came up and held Sandusky in place as it shoved him down further and bit down on his lower section. By the time Anton even prepared to fire an anchor into the back of its nape, Sandusky had been ripped in half.

Wordlessly and wide-eyed, Anton shifted his momentum to the creature’s backside before firing his anchor into its nape and reeling his swords back. He remembered the original battle for Trost. The horrors and tragedy. Those who were left behind to monsters like the titans. Anton remembered every look of fright, the look of himself when he looked into a mirror that very night. He was grown now. Matured and ready for the horrors that were upon him. As the titan feasted, his swords sliced through the nape and killed the beast. It wasn’t a clean cut, leaving the swords blunted and useless. They were discarded and replaced before Anton launched an anchor to fly back to his squad, all looking on in horror from a rooftop. He flew over them and called back, “You’re exposed on that roof! Move to the signal!”

Fortunately they learned and they followed after, leaving the top half of Sandusky’s corpse lying in the streets.

The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty Re: The First Battle to Retake Trost District

Post by Sprw201 14/9/2018, 02:50

The screaming had started. The operation was now in full swing and René was far too focused to worry by now. He was glancing at his teammates every now and then. They’d already lost a few people to the titans. At least, a few people in his vicinity. He had no idea what was happening behind, or diagonally of him. It was exhilarating to be using his 3DMG again though, it’d been, as he recalled, quite a long time since he’d last been suited up.

He triggered his gas just slightly, using his momentum from his latest swing and body weight to dodge a titan’s arm. Passing by, he launched one of his grappling hooks towards the titan’s nape. As he retracted the line, he released it once he got nearer. It was easier for him to free fall into an attack. He managed to get his blades deep enough into the nape, but it took a fair amount of effort. At least he was still willing to fight. The moment he stopped, that was when he was going to get injured, or worse eaten. The redhead wasn’t too keen about becoming titan fodder today.

As soon as he came out of the attack, he engaged his lines in order to preserve gas. With the size of this operation, if he wasn’t careful he wouldn’t even have enough to get back to the resupply stations along the edges of the walls of Trost. He was nearing a somewhat familiar building near, what he supposed, was the center of the outward district. His best guess was the town hall, but he doubted he could ever prove himself right seeing as the building was on fire and roving clumps of titans circled around it. Signaling to a random scout nearby, he motioned for them to take the kill. He’d be able to rush forward and blind the titan, giving them some time. The scout looked terrified at this proposition, but he’d already engaged his lines towards the invader. The eyes of a titan were considerably easier for René to target. He wasn’t as strong as the best scouts, so he had to take advantage of how he knew titans would react when they were injured. They’d reach for where (he assumed) they felt pain.

Just as he’d thought, as soon as his knives dug into the titan’s organs, it reached. Almost too quickly. He managed to dodge the approaching fist, but the titan ripped off his scouting cloak. He’d worn the green cloak even though it was an in-wall expedition. Jarred by the sudden impact, he rolled and twisted in the air. In hitting the roof, he hoped that the scout who he’d told to kill hadn’t been killed. He had to lie back for a couple moments. He’d lost a decent amount of air from that hit, falling was no joke. He had to keep moving though. If you stayed in one place too long, you’d get noticed and eaten.

It hadn’t even felt like an hour yet. René still found himself running on empty, and he used the very last dregs of his gas to make it to a supply station. He’d used almost all of his knives, having only three left. Being the klutz he was, he’d somehow managed to drop one. He’d rather leave it than go to the ground and risk being flattened by a stray foot. His resupply was quick, and he bade the Garrison members good luck on his way out, taking out one more titan that was approaching the station to the west.

Smoke signals dominated a fair portion of the sky, and even though the jackets around him represented all military branches, he was nervous enough to think that nobody was going to escape alive. Everyone was going to lose something. He hoped his cousin wouldn’t lose him. It was odd, but the chaos in trost felt peaceful to him. It was normal to be working under such pressure, to be afraid of everything your job entailed. If you weren’t afraid of this job then you were either dead or stupid. To go charging into a situation where you weren’t afraid was foreign to him. Being afraid of something didn’t mean you were weak, it meant that you were smart enough to recognize risks without being told what they were. That simple though gave the young scout so much courage that he felt like he was about to burst from the inside.

The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty Re: The First Battle to Retake Trost District

Their squad leader finally issued an order to advance. And the next moment Vasily jumped free of restrictive earth. For couple of wonderful seconds wind caressed his face until he fired his anchors and felt the familiar tug. The screams and canon fire filled air stank of gunpowder as Vasily flew past the ruined rooftops with rest of the squad.

The leader shouted over the raging chaos. “15 metre class in nine o’clock! Engage!” She slowed down to drop next to Vasily. “Kozlov! I heard you’re dexterous. You draw its attention, so we attack from behind.”

“Aye aye, Ma’am!” Vasily sped past the others heading for the titan. Once close, he shot 3DMG’s anchors to titan’s side to curve past its waist, and shallowly scratching its stomach for good measure. The titan bent over to grab the offending “insect”.  But Vasily grappled to a house and swung out of way.

Looking up Vasily saw his teammate’s silhouette against the dusky sky. And then he came down with great force, slashing the titan’s nape. The defeated titan plummeted heavily to ground.

“That was amazing!” Brightly smiling Vasily swung to join the slayer on a rooftop. “So amazing and bold! You made my heart throb! I might even fall for you.” Before the frowning titan killer had a chance to answer, rest of the team landed beside them.

“Good work men. That marks our first kill.” Squad leader said with a proud smile, moving to pat two of their shoulders. But once she came to Vasily, a massive shadow was cast over her face. And he threw both of them down.

Not a second later, a large mass soared over them.

With a deafening crash an abnormal landed face first to a stone building. It turned to look at their squad: One of their own was smeared on its grinning face and another man dangled from the monster’s teeth. Joseph was it? Or maybe Klaus? Well, no matter. With a throw of its neck it slurped the person down.

This was it. Vasily’s heart was drumming against his ribcage, and he could only take shallow gasps. No circus stunt could ever match this heady feeling. This was it – a real threat of death!

Launching himself to his hands and to airborne from it, Vasily grasped his hooks on the abnormal. “Don’t let it scare you! We can do this!”

The man, who killed the first titan did not hesitate either. He swung at the titan head on, while Vasily aimed for the ankles. But the titan jumped again: Snatching the man from mid-air to its mouth. To avoid being dragged along, Vasily hastily released his anchors and tumbled to street level. Shaking his head from a daze, Vasily stood up. He faced the abnormal’s retreating form. “I’m chasing it down!”

The squad leader ordered from the roof. “No! Keep to formation Kozlov!”

“There’s no formation! We’re the only ones left!”

Getting up and sweeping from roof to roof and building to building Vasily chased the titan that hopped over streets and buildings on all fours. But the manoeuvre gear was no match to its enormous leaps. Disappearing behind a tall church, Vasily lost sight of the titan. He landed on the top church tower to frantically look around. “Titans are big. They can’t hide.” he thought. But the abnormal had slipped away.

Vasily sighed. It was such a rare chance; you could not confront abnormals every day. However, then he spotted another scout not far off. Quickly chasing him down Vasily shouted. “HEY!!” He waved at the tall spectacled ginger scout. “Did you see an Abnormal passing hippity hoppity like a frog?!”

The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty Re: The First Battle to Retake Trost District

Post by cornix 21/9/2018, 15:33

Cora stared downwards onto the district. It was pure chaos. While most small squads had their own little formation they started running around like deoriented and paniced chicken when one of theirs died. It worked well, as long as everyoen stayed alive and a rather huge amount of them managed to get themselves killed by canon fire, even though those were technically supposed to fire further away to ensure that exactly that would not happen.

She sighed and stared at Alan, standing next to her. Cora still had to get used to the rather persistant halluzination of hers. Atleast it only stayed with Alan, and did not add Auth as well. That was the last thing she needed. Four people in her head. She got annoyed enough at the two of them, Alan atleast mostly kept to himself. Even though, when he appeared he was more annoying than both of them together. Alan meant alot to her but having him inside her head was never something she had wanted.

Cora took another look at the district from above and then turned back around to the higher ups around her. "No matter how you plan on closing the gate. I will go down there now and make sure we get atleast a few of those titans killed. If you do need me shoot a purple flare up. Or send someone.", she fiddled around with her belts and went towards the edge of the wall, letting herself fall down, back forward.
She thought about just not using her grappling hooks. Just falling onto the ground, smashing her head in. It would be over so fast. Cora sighed and turned herself and shot her hooks in the nearest house. She flew through the streets until she had met Ludwig. Both of them landed on a rooftop, his and her squad behind him.
He whistled and half of the men went towards her.

They communicated wordless and each of them started clearing different areas. Ludwig the one to the right of their small meeting rooftop, she to the left. Cora first got rid of the bigger ones. They worked down in levels, bigger ones first to create an area in which they could safely stay. Then the middle ones, and so forth. The tiny ones usually were not much of a problem. They were rather slow and did not have much of an ability to grab them out of the air.

The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty Re: The First Battle to Retake Trost District

“Smoke signal is just up ahead! I see two fifteen-meter titans! Possible seven-to-ten-meters behind the buildings. Break off; quick recon!”

On Anton’s orders, the emergency response split up its four remaining members as they engaged in their practiced stratagem. With a quick burst of gas, the blew upward in four different directions and viewed the response area from multiple different angles. It was through this they could find every titan that could be hiding.

“Two three-meter titans left of those two fifteen-meters!” called Lehmann.

“Seven-meter behind the building around the corner!” called Kowalski.

“Multiple titans on route from breaching point!” called Heffner.

It was a relief to Anton to see that the three of them were holding the composure at the gates of the engagement, yet it would be too soon to tell whether or not they could see it through. With a glance of his eyes, Anton could tell that the squad who fired the signal had already been devoured. At this point, the only reason they were there was to ensure that the offensive line wasn’t breached. For the fallen, he would see that through.

In a moment’s concentration, he analyzed the situation: while the two fifteen-meter titans were likely standard, along with the three-meters, the seven-meter was likely an abnormal if it was hiding. That would have to be their first target. From there, the next targets would depend on positioning. While the fifteen-meters had the most reach, the three-meters were quick enough that landing on the ground was extensively dangerous. Adding the threat of the multiple titans that were in coming, and they were in dire straits. Regardless, Anton decided on his plan of attack.

“Lehmann, Heffner, distract the fifteen-meters! Kowalski, I’m rabbiting that seven-meter!”

As the two other recruits fired their anchors to the roofs to goad and evade the two larger titans, Anton let his wire swing him around the corner and straight toward the abnormal. It jabbed its hand out at him, its beady eyes locking onto his own, be he arced his body and twisted himself to fire an anchor at its shoulder before a quick burst of gas spiraled him around and about the titan’s arm before flinging himself toward its backside. As the titan turned and made a groaning noise, Kowalski brought his arms upward and dived from the air to slice the nape out vertically.

From where they were, the fifteen-meters were the next safest targets. As Lehmann and Heffner repeatedly evaded and jumped from roof to roof, Anton and Kowalski came in from opposite sides and cleanly cut through the napes. All that remained was the three-meters, which were looking up to the latter two from ground level. As on reach upward in an attempt to gain some height, Lehmann and Heffner cut straight through them, each as vicious as a wolf.

Anton summoned them back up to the roof where he quickly stated, “Area’s clear for now. We’ll have to hold here until reinforcements come in.”

“When would that be?” asked Kowalski with a scratch of his chin.

Anton shrugged, “I don’t know.”

Before any worry could set into them, Lehmann simply stated, “We should have enough gas to get us through another fight, though I’m down a set of swords.”

Heffner snorted, “Too rough on the one slice you had? Should model yourself after Kowalski and I!” he raised a blade, “Perfect cuts.”

“Bite me, long neck.”

As the dust settled, Anton found himself settling into ease. When he himself realized how relaxed the situation was, he smacked himself and was reminded that Sandusky was dead because of carelessness. They could very well be joining that census at any moment.

It was just then that a shadow rose above them and came down in the form of a giant steaming arm landing onto Kowalski, bringing out a loud and sickening snap along with an extensive cry of agony. From the base of the building, the steaming skeletal form of a seven-meter titan was reaching up and resting its sizzling arm on the recruit. Anton dove off the roof and fired an anchor into the back of its head, spotting the only fleshy-looking part on its body. It took Anton a moment to realize that this was the seven-meter abnormal that they thought they killed. Then he realized that they only cut out the nape and that it was still very intact. With a surge of gas, he rushed downward cut it down.

When he landed back on the roof, he found that Kowalski had been severely burned from the waist down and, likely, had his spine and ribs broken by the impact. While he was alive for now, it likely wouldn’t be for long.

The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty Re: The First Battle to Retake Trost District

“HEY!!” René turned, catching sight of another scout running towards him. They continued yelling and they were waving at him. “Did you see an Abnormal passing hippity hoppity like a frog?!” René glanced around hastily checking for titans. “An Abnormal titan? Which way was it headed? I know their movements are unpredictable… but it’ll be helpful to know in the long run.” He reached for his flare pack, sorting through the colors to find a black cartridge. Anyone nearby should know there was one. Reducing casualties anyway he could was important. Needless deaths shouldn’t happen. He motioned to the other scout to cover his ears so he could fire the smoke flare into the sky.

After he made sure everything was in place on his person. “It’s too dangerous to stay in one place for too long, and it’s also too dangerous to be going out by yourself, especially here. I’m going to need you to follow me.” The words of an order sounded strange in René’s mouth, so he avoided further conversation by triggering his lines to the nearest building. Once he was in the air, he calmed down a bit. An Abnormal… he’d been fortunate enough to have never personally come across one, but he knew many friends who’d lost their lives to them. And many more who’d lost their livelihoods.

René didn’t bother checking behind him to see if that scout was still following, he hoped they were. There were smoke flares going off left and right, and a red one went off nearby. He deployed one of his lines and used momentum to swing around the side of a building, coming face to face with a massacre he’d seen many times. One or two titans were crawling in between the rows of buildings. He faltered, seeing a screaming person trapped between the jaws of one of the titans. All this time he thought he’d been brave and a big shot. He’d been ignoring the reality of what happened. Overrun by adrenaline, he retracted his hook from the building and squeezed the trigger for his gas. The wind rushed through his hair, the momentum he was going at made a slight whistling in his ears. The titan’s neck was too him. If he was fast enough he could slash it. He could kill it. Withdrawing two new blades, he prepared himself for the attack. The blood was roaring in his ears and his eyes widened in nervous energy.

He felt alive as he cut through the tough flesh of the beast. It was like everything he lived for had been completed, and a sudden wave of peace washed over him and clung to his easily swayed heart. Twisting around, he noticed that the other titan was chasing after him. Time to move again. He landed safely behind the steeple of a house. There was blood splattered all over him, and it was smoking slightly, but this was the best he’d ever felt in years. He was kind of in a comatose, but focused state. All he could think about was killing. The weight of the swords in his hands was comfortable. For the first time since he joined the scouts, he felt confident in what he did. His mind wasn’t questioning his actions. He wasn’t doubting himself. He recalled a word his mother used to utter to her squirming, anxious child every night. “Savoir”  And he knew it for a fact. He could make a difference in these forsaken walls.

Obviously alarmed the young scout glanced around. “An Abnormal titan? Which way was it headed? I know their movements are unpredictable… but it’ll be helpful to know in the long run.”

Landing next to him Vasily answered. “Hm. More or less towards the gates.  Ah, maybe it will surprise others from behind!” Vasily watched him dig out a black cartridge. That is right! Vasily should have shot one already before! Oopsies! But mistakes happen. As the other scout signed him to cover his ears he obediently did so and looked up at the quickly rising smoke pillar. “It’s a pity I don’t get to beat it, but I hope someone else finds it soon.”

The young scout gave him an order to follow. He reminded Vasily about hazards of staying alone and swung off before Vasily had a further chance to speak to his new buddy. It would have been great to know who he was working with – not that Vasily knew his previous teammates either. Nevertheless, Vasily took heed of his order and sped after the man.

Hurrying past and over roofs bright streaks of colourful smoke peppered Vasily’s left and right. Soon a red one was launched just ahead. Yes! More action and this fast! Farer forward his ginger mate halted momentarily – prior to slashing violently at a titan that rose from a crawl. Vasily subconsciously led out a whistle at the carnage before him. But another titan stood up and chased after the scout.

Wasting no time Vasily rushed towards the monster. Grappling his hooks to its nape Vasily forged ahead with power of the gas. Once he felt his swords gouge out the thick flesh, hot steam and blood gushed on his face. Momentarily blinded he grabbed the monster’s hair to ride along as it smashed on top of a steepled building.

“Woohoo! Today’s first solo kill!” Vasily cheered as he wiped blood with his sleeves. He looked around. “New mystery teammate! Are you still alive?!” He stood on his own kill, the other kill was on the ground and some ravaged human parts next to it. He was not part of it, was he? Or what if he got flattened under this titan that chased him? Glancing around Vasily spotted him behind a tower weighting his swords.

“There you’re! I already thought you got squished to pancake by a titan!” He laughed as he skipped next to the scout. Patting him on the back, and with a boyish grin Vasily continued. “That was a great kill – really wild! But you know – what I should call you when the next dramatic moment comes? I’m Vasily Kozlov, a private, but just Vass is enough too. Or is it too unprofessional? Anyway it’s a nice to meet you!”

The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty Re: The First Battle to Retake Trost District

Post by cornix 4/10/2018, 00:20

Cora watched the blood of one of the titans evaporate from the blade of her swords. Even after all these years and countless encounters with titans so far it was still fascinating to see it just disappear. They just...went away, every trace of them lost after they were dead. Forgotten. Just like all of these soldiers dying today. Remembered by some, their family, if they still had any, their companions, for a while. Just like the titan's corpses and blood disappeared so would the memories of all of the fallen. Cora could not remember any of the names of the trainees she had been in one division with. Maybe this was just her though, she was not sure.

The pack had eliminated quite the amount of titans with conjoined efforts. The fact that neither of them tended to panic at the titan's sight had been to their advantage. While fearlessness had killed one or two of her soldiers the vast amount was still alive. They were quick in learning and their strategy had worked rather well.

A warm breath in her neck ripped Cora out of her philosophical daydreams and she turned around to be greeted with by possibly the widest smile a titan could have. There were countless teeth in his or her mouth, way more than any human would have. Also two rows. Everything but a pleasant sight. It breathed again, this time the heat was almost unbearable, but Cora did not move an inch away from where she was standing. She just stared into its green eyes, one was probably half the size of her.
She was not sure what had gotten into her, why she was not moving or why she was not trying to fight it but she just stood there, waiting. Waiting for it to move, possibly bite her head off. Rather unsurprising to herself was the lack of fear she showed. Even if it would kill her now she would likely not mind it. Right before the titan snapped foward and tried to make her a head shorter she grappled into its green eyes and catapulted herself upwards. On her way down she cut out a huge chunk of its neck but seemingly it was not big enough as the titan still managed to turn around and smacked her midair away into a random direction she had had not intention of going. The air got pressed out of her lungs and she struggled quite a bit to manage to gain her orientation back and not be squished against the next wall like a fly.

Cora made a rather horrible landing on a rooftop. Landing was nicely put, she more or less rolled over it and eventually came to stop by crashing against a tower. She grunted and slowly stood up, dusting herself off, checking whether or not she was seriously hurt. No. Good. Probably bruised all over, but nothing broken. Her breath was still normal and did not hurt immensly, so no broken rib. A good thing for once, the past weeks or months rather it had been a constant recovery for her. Only this once she would like to get out of a fight without having broken ribs, missing fingers or various other injuries.

She looked around to figure out where in the district she was. Mh. A bit far away from where she was supposed to be, but she was needed here as well. A few meters away from her was what could only be described as the burned soon to be remains of a man. His friend or not, it did not matter had just appeared on the roof top.
With a few fast steps Cora was next to the side of the man, she knelt next to him and gave him the warmest smile she could. He was lying on his side, his breathing was barely noticable and his face was a grimace of pain. It did not take her longer than a few seconds to get a knife out of some place hidden within her clothing and end the man's suffering by slitting his throat deeply. As she let go of the head it tilted backwards only attached to the muscles on the back of the neck and almost falling off.
Cora cleaned the knife on the charred clothing of the soldier and cut out his survey corps badge.

Wordlessly she handed the badge to his friend.

The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty Re: The First Battle to Retake Trost District

Post by Spaizman 4/10/2018, 20:27

For the briefest of moments, Anton glanced far ahead to the south to spot for incoming titans. He turned his head to face the rest of his squad, “Four fifteen-meter titans incoming, potential sevens and eights also,” be moving back to face their wounded comrade, “Heffner, listen up, I need you to take Kowalski and move north-northeast to…” and the words caught in his throat as he looked upon a brutal sight.

In the few short seconds that he had looked away, a scarred woman with short hair, whom he did not recognize, had appeared on the roof and was kneeling right next to Kowalski. She gave a forced smile, which gave Anton a shutter when he noticed the scar which stood prevalent on her face, before she brought out her knife and deeply cut into Kowalski’s throat. While the rest of his squad were still processing what they had just witnessed, Anton was already moving to draw and blade before he was interrupted by her offering Kowalski’s Garrison badge. It then clicked in his head that what she had done was out of mercy, however brutal it was. He slid the blade back into its scabbard before taking the badge respectfully, holding his tongue for any loose comments that he wished to make. Unfortunately, another issue threw itself into their faces.

“YOU BITCH!” cried Heffner before he charged her with his two blades alongside Lehmann, both of whom held faces of pure rage.

Anton was quick to face them and hold out his arms, “Hold up, hold up!”

Though Lehmann came to a reluctant stop, Heffner attempted to barrel past him to attack the new arrival. However weak Anton was physically, it didn’t take much to bring Heffner to a stop after wrapping both arms around his waist and throwing a foot out to bring them both down to the ground. With the raging young soldier on the ground, Anton repeatedly stated, “I’ll handle it. I’ll handle it!” before the rage finally subsided.

As both pulled themselves up, Heffner staring daggers at Cora, Anton brought his attention to him, “I need you to do something. Listen closely,” before words rapidly flooded out of his mouth, “Move north-northeast to the nearest supply station. Once there, find the commanding officer and let him know ‘ERT is down to three, we need replacements and reinforcements’ and do not relent until he gives us that. Once you get them, break off into two teams taking the adjacent streets to the one to our south. Those fifteen-meter titans and more, probably, will be on us by then. While the three of us hold them here, move to their back, maneuver past any titans on the way, and make a precision strike on the nape. If there are titans in pursuit of you, draw them here and we’ll handle them. Understood?”

Heffner was taken aback by the flurry of words, though he held onto every detail before nodding, “Yeah, I understand.”

“Go, then,” order Anton before he turned to face Lehmann, ordering to her as well, “There are chimneys are some chimney twenty-meters down the road. Move over there, check the other side of the building for titans before getting into a hiding position to strike one of those bastards. Don’t move until they’ve all passed you. Expect there to be more than the four fifteen-meters. Understood?”

She nodded as well before moving out. With a sigh of relief that he managed to avoid violent conflict between them and the woman, he turned to face her, asking, “Before the fight comes in, I need to ask: was the brutality necessary?”

The clatter of boots behind him shook René out of his speech to himself. So much for confidence and bravery. He instinctively jumped back, afraid there could be a titan nearby. It wasn’t a titan, just the red headed scout from before. He seemed quite energetic because he immediately started talking. “There you are! I already thought you got squished to a pancake by a titan!” And despite the fact that René was well and sure he wasn’t dreaming the kid actually *laughed* as he skipped toward him. How was this kid so damn happy in this killzone? There was blood and screaming everywhere but despite this the unknown scout was grinning like and idiot. He continued to speak to the dumbstruck René, “That was a great kill - really wild! But you know - what should I call you when the next dramatic moment comes? I’m Vasily Kozlov, a private, but just Vass is enough too. Or is it too unprofessional? Anyway nice to meet you!” In all his years of service, he’d never thought he’d ever be complimented on a kill of his own. He managed to stutter out a sheepish “t-thank you” to the now identified Vasily. “I’m René Alfons. Nice to meet you. To be honest I never thought I’d be having such a pleasant conversation with someone during a mission as dangerous as this.” He offered his best smile towards Vasily. “So Vass, how…” he corrected himself “why did you even choose the scouts?” It was the only question he could think of. The only thing that came to mind. Was it too rude to ask someone about their personal decision? Probably. Definitely? There was still one thing he was caught up on. How was this kid SMILING in the middle of a massacre. Instead of trusting this obviously sweet and kind scout, René was on defense mode. Currently he was scouring his mind for the reasons this kid could possibly be smiling. So far he’d come up with three reasons. They weren’t very good. 1) He was a murderer. But looking at how happy he was… probably not.  2) Definitely insane in one way or another. Insane wasn’t hard to deal with.   3) The scout was genuinely happy for meeting someone new. And just as he was getting into the full swing of freaking out like always, he heard a scream from close by. He was pretty sure the scout had answered the question he’d posed and he just hadn’t heard it. If he hadn’t it was too late. “Did you hear that scream??” Of course that was the dumbest question to ask in the midst of a battlefield where people were dying left and right. They didn’t have time for this!

“We should go investigate!” He made a move for the ledge of the house but he stopped short, the fingers of a titan gripping and breaking the tiles. His hands were slippery from the blood. He wasn’t sure if it was his or another human’s but it wasn’t titan’s, that would have evaporated. He scrambled for his swords that he fumbled. “Shit.” The titan was looking at him now. It’s stupid face and unblinking eyes looking down at him. Looking down at him. He got a grip on one of his swords, he’d get the other one later. Focus on not dying. Surviving, surviving was a good goal. He could do that. He’d done it for 20 years, dammit. His hair was disheveled and hanging down into his vision. A wild look filled his eyes. And with a snarl on his face he did the biggest thing he could think of. “FUCK YOU!!!!!” This statement of course, was directed towards the titan in front of him. He was wondering what Vasily was thinking. Most likely nothing good.
As the titan swung its face into the tiles of the roof, he engaged his gas and leapt over the idiotic monster. His ankles were drawn in close together, his chin level with his knees and his arms were spread out to either side for balance. And then he fell. This time on purpose, with nobody there to catch him from splitting his head open. He thought he was going to kill the damned thing. Until its arm flung out at the side and he was able to dodge most of it, except for one finger. And he was hit across roofs. Great. What a wonderful way to make an impression on a new friend and die five minutes after learning their name. He hoped Vasily would forgive his boldness. He could still feel his fingers, and so he did his best to try and slow down the impact, using his gas to create directional resistance. Maybe to try and right himself in the air, something he’d never been good at that. It was a life or death situation though, and his only bet was to try his best.

Instead of redirecting himself and switching directions as He’d intended, he only managed to twist in the air slightly and slow himself down enough that he didn’t break a rib. The shingles on the roof broke with the impact of his landing, and his hands and face were scraped up from the shards. He must have bitten his tongue when he landed because his mouth tasted like copper and he could feel a flow in his mouth. He spat out a glob of it and wiped the trickle. Not exactly as he planned for it to happen but he wasn’t dead so it was a win in his book. And in the process of being almost killed by being backhanded he’d lost Vasily again. He hoped the scout was okay. Giving his 3DMG a quick once over, he made sure nothing was broken. The only amiss was that he’d lost a sword in the tumble. Activating the gas, he made in the direction in which he’d last seen Vasily, moving as quickly as possible.

The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty Re: The First Battle to Retake Trost District

Post by cyideal 21/10/2018, 02:22

Initially the mystery teammate was startled by approaching Vasily; But ended up muttering a sheepish thanks for the compliment and named himself René Alfons. It always nice to have a name to a face! But he seemed bolder when giving out orders. Maybe he was shyer than Vasily thought. “To be honest I never thought I’d be having such a pleasant conversation with someone during a mission as dangerous as this.”

“I don’t think being nice has anything to do with danger(?)” Vasily tilted his head as he blinked at him.

Seeming to look for right words, René begun “So, Vass, how…” but then stopped. Vasily nodded at him enthusiastically to continue and he restarted his question. “Why did you even choose the scouts?”

Oh! The threaded question! Everyone seemed to always have some noble reason to join Survey Corps like avenging family members and friends and saving and freeing humanity from all the titans. Those were good reasons – great ones at that! But they went a little over his head. Vasily just did not feel so deeply about the Corps. Oh well, no use being ashamed of oneself! With an unabashed smile and puffed chest Vasily announced. “For money and thrill!”

Instead of continuing their pleasant chat René jumped to alertness. “Did you hear that scream??”

“People have been screaming whole evening.” Nevertheless, René prompted both to investigate where the cry came from. But they barely had to turn around to come face to face with a titan.

It was peering at them over a roof ledge. René's hands went for his swords. Vasily did not think; Before he knew it, he had shot his hooks to the tower to curve around it and attack the titan from the side. Over a whistling wind he could hear René cursing: “FUCK YOU!!!!!” He did not mean Vasily, did he? He was just trying to surprise the titan, not run away. Or that was the plan.

As Vasily reappeared from behind the tower, he saw the titan swatting his mate away like a bug. Still Vasily shot his anchors to beast’s neck and went for the kill.

But the titan was faster. It whirled its head and opened its maw, with Vasily flying straight towards it. Hastily releasing his hooks, Vasily twisted his hips and let out a burst of gas to make a sharp turn. A hair raising ‘CLANK’ of massive teeth hitting each other rang behind him. The excitement scooped from his stomach and shot through his body like electric current! That was such a close call! But he had no time to enjoy it. Vasily was quickly colliding with a window across the street.

Covering his face Vasily dived through the glass. The crash was ear deafening and shards dig to his arms, yet he could not bother. His body felt so light like he was still airborne! Yet not even a second later, he was followed by a loud smash and crumbling noises as the titan slammed its face to the wall.

Escaping the indoors by closest window he swung back to the familiar rooftop. Fortunately, René was just returning too. Blood was trickling from his mouth, but he was up and dandy and that is all that mattered!

“Glad to see you’re one piece, René!” With few bloody glass shards stuck in his hair Vasily flashed a grin at him, before turning back to the titan. “I’ll slash its eyes, so René you go for the kill.” Impatiently shifting weight on his legs, swords poised, and eyes locked on the target Vasily’s face lit up with childish glee. “Alright, let’s go!” And with that he shot forward straight at the titan.

The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty Re: The First Battle to Retake Trost District

Post by cornix 21/10/2018, 23:41

Cora's facial expression was one of utter boredom and just seemed to get even more bored with everything the 'friends' of the now dead guy did. Nevertheless, she was still prepared to send either of them flying off the roof if they would actually get close enough to harm her. The first one just briefly missed his chance to end up as a titan's final dinner because the one she had handed the badge to stepped in. What a gentelman! He did not want her killed! Or his friend actually, that was way more likely, even if he might not really know that.
He then proceeded to send both of the rather upset teenagers away. Probably into their own deaths. Or not. She hoped that that would not happen, for the only seemingly intelligent guy around here. He seemed to care about his friends but still seemed to have enough of a brain to understand that Cora had just helped him. To be honest. She could have cared less about it. Maybe she should have left him there to die, suffer for a while longer. If it went good he would pass out, but if it wasn't, he might have stay there, three quarters dead for a good half an hour or more. You never really knew. It varied.

"Before the fight comes in, I need to ask: was the brutality necessary?", he asked her.
Cora looked down at the corpse, "What brutality? I just ended his suffering?", she was rather oblivious to how she had killed the man. For her it just counted that she did. What was the difference between gently stabbing something in his heart, which still would have kept him alive for longer than more or less beheading him. Thinking about it, the best way would have been to somehow stab his brain directly. Which would have been a nuisance however, turning him around, stabbing it from behind....nah. This was better.
"Anyhow.", she started, not really caring what he had said or if he had said something, "Titans. I am far away from my own men. But given you are rather short on hands here right now, I can jump in for a while. We have had far less casualities."
And Cora damn well hoped that there would not be any more.

She tightened the straps on her modified 3DMG and then let herself fall down the roof, face forward. Just before she had hit the ground she grappled upwards and swung into the direction of the first titan that she saw. It was a rather tall one. 10m Class that had been more or less hiding in between the buildings and now stumbled out of an alley towards the street Cora was on. She skillfully grappled into his eye and swung towards the titan. He grabbed the wire and almost pulled her down but she had cut out a large portion of his nape before he managed to be a danger towards her. Still, Cora cursed the titan and landed onto another roof again, looking around for her next prey.

When the words, “What brutality?” rang through his ear, Anton felt himself tense up began to grit his teeth. Even as she stated that she ended Kowalski’s suffering, he couldn’t fathom the fact that she saw no offense or insult in that the poor recruit’s head remained connected to the body by a mere bit of skin and muscle in the back. Yet, his anger subsided as he knew that this was not the time nor the place. He’d wait until there was a moment’s peace to press the issue.

“Anyhow. Titans. I am far away from my own men. But given you are a little short on hands right now, I can jump in for a while. We have had far less casualties,” came her voice. By the time his focus returned in full, Cora fell from the roof and grappled her way forward, only for a ten-meter titan to jump out from between the buildings.

“Damn!” called Anton as he drew his blades and prepared to launch to an assist. But she fired an anchor into its eye and, even as the beast got a hold of her wire, managed to fly around and slice its nape before landing on a roof nearby. It made sense to Tony at that moment. Between near decapitation mercy-killing and the ocular trauma that most people hesitated out of bodily empathy, she had no reservation or urges to hold back. As far as Anton was concerned, brutality was simply in her nature. He’d judge later if that was a good or bad thing.

By this point the four fifteen-meter titans had begun to walk parallel with Lehmann’s position. Anton threw himself from the roof and fire his anchors to fling himself forward, disregarding all other thoughts. One of the larger titans launched its arm forward in anticipation of his path. His mind remained stalwart and his eyes narrowed to lock with the titan’s before he launched an anchor into its shoulder and made directly for its hand. When it went to grab, he angled his gear and let out a burst of gas that threw him above the hand. He retracted his anchor and fired another into its forearm, swinging to its underside as one of the other titans attempted to intercept and latched onto and crushed the former titan’s hand. Retracting and firing another anchor into the titan’s armpit, he swung down to its legs before bringing back both his arms and striking the joints on the back of its left leg, causing it to topple.

“Lehmann! Kill it!” he called as he grappled around its waist and sliced the wrist of the titan latching onto its collapsing brethren, all the while avoiding its other pursuing arms and keeping out of reach of the other two titans. A brief shout from the titan behind him told him that Lehmann successfully struck the nape. As he fired another anchor and flew up his new target’s arm, a hand came and pushed its face out of the way as both of the other titan’s pushed through to involve themselves in the fight. At this point, there was too much to account for and he pulled back with Lehmann in tow. As they retreated down the roof, one of the titans tripped over the heel of their original target and slammed its head face first into the building with a smile on its face.

The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty Re: The First Battle to Retake Trost District

René saw Vasily charge through a window, the sun glinting off what appeared to be shards of glass stuck in his head that were slick with blood. The scout was grinning wildly, until he suddenly turned towards the titan. “I’ll slash its eyes, so René you go for the kill.” Vas shifted impatiently, and then was that…. Happiness in his eyes? No way… Being dumbstruck, René was late after Vass spouted a “Alright, let’s go!” He was lucky the roof tiles weren’t wet, he would have slipped on them. The standard issue boots supplied by the military didn’t really have good grip on the bottoms of them.

Hurtling through the air, René’s stomach dropped. This titan was going to be a problem. He estimated it was at least a 15 meter, but it could have been less. Rushing around the corner of a steeple, he saw the titan’s hand come down on another scout, one he didn’t know. Vasily was still surging ahead towards the titan’s face. If he wanted less casualties here was his chance. He squeezed the trigger on his sword’s handle to engage a grappling hook. The hook successfully anchored itself into a roof behind the titan, allowing René to swing wide around the titan in an arc shaped like a “C”. Pressing his fingers to the handle that would engage his gas, he started to gain speed as he approached the titan’s nape. Twisting himself around (which he had never been very good at) he swung his blades around behind his head, eyes widening in anticipation of his kill. From what he could tell, Vasily successfully distracted the titan because it didn’t turn its head around to snap at him. He felt bliss when the knives dug into the titan’s flesh, he’d certainly cut deep enough.

He flailed in the air. René had never been the graceful type, and he began to panic that he would fall. His fingers for the grappling hook’s lever, he flicked it multiple times. Thankfully, the hook caught anchor on the tiles of a nearby roof and he bumped against the structure, feeling safe again. Why did he even sign up for this job if he was becoming aware of the dangers of falling? His teeth clenched, their now bloodstained surfaces grinding against each other. He must have bitten his tongue when he was hit by that titan earlier. His mouth tasted richly of copper. All he wanted to do was spit out the blood pooling in his cheeks. Surely enough, Vasily had made it out alive and the targeted titan staggered once before it fell into the house. René’s heart quickened, before he remembered that there weren’t any civilians in the area. They could continue the destruction of Trost as much as they wanted, nobody except the military personnel would be in danger today. Looking down, he saw his glasses were stained with blood, most likely his since it hadn’t evaporated. Untucking a corner of his shirt, he wiped it away, the crimson liquid seeped into his shirt, greedily covering the fabric.

Eventually, he spotted Vasily a couple rooftops over and jetted over to him, this time managing to land neatly next to the scout. “Hey! Thanks for the assist.” Now that René felt like he had time to not die, he took in the full appearance of Vasily. His hair was wavy, and fell in curls around the freckle-faced scout. His eyes held a deep knowledge in them, perhaps even a glint of wisdom there, something René was insanely jealous of. Even though René was smart, he was still pretty oblivious, especially when he focused on something. Once he got involved and properly invested in something he wouldn’t stop unless forcibly shaken out of his concentration. It reminded him of his uncle, who always said that if he put his mind to it he could do anything. That was big talk from a man who was dependent on alcohol to soothe him. You could see how far that got him.

Rubbing his wrist he offered a half-hearted smile to Vasily. “Sorry about earlier….” He felt himself falter, the corners of his awkward grin drooping. “That titan that smacked me onto that roof was eating someone who I knew.”  Someone who he knew? That was a shit excuse. “I meant to tell you, you’re quite agile in the air! I’m impressed. I’ve never been quite good at it.” At this point he was desperately digging for something to talk about with this new-found friend. As he listened to Vasily talk, his heart rate felt more and more relaxed. It was almost as if the world around them wasn’t in desolation.

The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty Re: The First Battle to Retake Trost District

Vasily was so close, yet the titan did not even look at him. Following its line of sight, he spotted a third scout down at a roof. Vasily was almost colliding with the titan’s face, yet still nothing! With a twist of his whole body Vasily gouged at the beast’s eyes on its sideways turned face. It let out an agonised roar and slammed a hand down to the very same roof where the scout was. Hopefully they had dodged!

Swinging away from the lumbering titan, he saw René sharply curving behind the nape. Breaking to a smile at the sight he made a light-hearted flip on the air as he swung to the closest roof. Landing with a (an unnecessary) theatrical flair, Vasily looked for his new friend René: The titan was down and smoking but again he was not in sight. Vasily huffed in disappointment of not getting to show off his moves and disposed his blunted swords.

However only seconds later René dropped beside him with practised ease and promptly thanked for the assist. “No problem; it was easy! Teamwork is the best work, isn’t it? And the titan was more interested in that third scout than me.” He scanned around the steaming titan’s corpse for any movement but did not spot any. “Huh? I guess they run away.”

René instead smiled sheepishly. “Sorry about earlier…. That titan that smacked me onto that roof was eating someone who I knew.”

“It’s alright! People get eaten all the time, but at least we’re alive!”

Vasily most likely cheered him up since René was quick to change subject. “I meant to tell you, you’re quite agile in the air! I’m impressed. I’ve never been quite good at it.”

He was looking at him after all! A little proud smile slipped on Vasily. “Glad you enjoyed the spectacle! At heart I’m always going to be an entertainer!”

Now that Vasily got a chance to better look at René they might have looked a little bit similar. Freckled gingers both – except René had spectacles and several additional inches. “But man! Exactly how tall are you? We don’t look too different, but the height difference – wow!” Steps closer to compare by hand yet reaches only under René’s chin. “Like I grew up in a dairy farm – a few years that is. And milk is supposed to make you big, but now even my fifteen-year-old sisters are growing past me. And I’m not going to even mention my big brothers!“ Nevertheless, merely shrugs with a chuckle. “But we really do look little alike. Do you think it’s that thing? Ugh, what was it called again – Vadoma told me about it once. It had a special name. Do… dope, not that. Dupe-something?” Snaps his fingers as brightens up. “Duppergouger! That’s what people who look alike are called! Although, something bad was supposed to happen when you meet one.”

He gazed at René and stroked his chin thoughtfully, until his eyes locked on René’s stained shirt. “Are your guts bleeding out?” Vasily tries tentatively poking René’s stomach where he wiped his bloodstained spectacles earlier. “I think you should’ve it checked. And I’m running out of gas so let’s go together!”

The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty Re: The First Battle to Retake Trost District

Grappling hooks attached to the wall, allowing a hooded man in a black coat with fur edges soar over a few garrisons who were to prevent intruders from interrupting the current mission. Too bad they were too drunk to do their job well.
"Stop! You can't go up there!"
Were a few of the lazy shouts that followed the mysterious figure as he ascended to the top of the wall.

Reaching the maximum height of the wall, the hooded man was disappointed to find out that there was still some commanding soldiers on top. That means that his presence would definitely be known.
This made the man smile, however, as he thought it would add to the fun if he was man-hunted.

Not wasting a moment, the newcomer descended the other side of the wall but running and jumping off. His hood, flew off as he quickly plummeted to the ground, revealing his white hair and pink eyes.
Renn adjusted his positioning in the air before recovering control of his direction with the use of the grapples once more.

Quickly making his way through Trost, the Snake's mindset changed from fun back to his original reason he had come here; to find Cora. he thought she was stupid to agree to such a dangerous mission, especially with her current broken mind and still heavily injured body. He couldn't let her die, he owed her that.

König didn't care for what the mission was, and was using the basic 3DMG skills he had to avoid any Titans that cross his path.
The first one he had seen had scared him, as it was nothing like how he had imagined it. The fear wasn't strong enough to paralyze him and he managed to keep his cool, mainly because he was too focused on other things and already full of adrenaline. He had easily avoided that first Titan and the more of them he saw, the more he was adjusting to their presence in the world.

The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty Re: The First Battle to Retake Trost District

Cora watched the two killing titans half heartedly. They were not bad, which was mostly indicated by the fact neither of them got killed, but they were clearly not on her soldiers' level. That to be said, it did make sense. She and all her companions had been training since such a young age that they could not remember anything else other than training. Cora vaguely remembered her stepfather. As he got her out of the hands of the pack, or to whomever she was going to be sold to...she had no idea how to integrate into society. All she could think of was training, there was nothing...nothing else for her. Recently things had changed and she disliked it. She should just go back to training relentlessly until she would not be able to anymore. Maybe that would somehow help her alcohol problems recently? Mh. She could try.

A widely smiling titan fell into a close by building. Cora smiled back as widely and awkwardly as she could, waving slightly, "Helluuuu!", she said and chuckled at her own joke before jumping downwards and swiftly ending the titan's awkward suffering.
She used hr 3DMG to get back to the young soldier, who's friend she had also sent over to the other side. Or wherever dead people might go. Even though Cora was so familiar with death...she had never really thought much about what happened after it. Nec remembered this and was already preparing themselves for a new existential crisis the next time they had someone die in front of them. He hoped Cora would not remember it.

A titan decided to practice its stone throwing for the olypmic games and almost hit Cora, she barely managed to avoid it and unsteadily flew through the air until she had managed to somehow regain her balance again. In this brief period she had also lost her sense of orientation and spotted a hodded figure rather close by, still a few house blocks away, but still close enough to clearly tell apart. It was hard not to recognize him. The bright white hair and skin were like as visible as beacons in the night to Cora. Maybe it was because he was not wearing scount uniform either. No, of course it would be a black coat with is all too typical fur. The titan grabbing her wire before, nor the stone almost directly hitting her face on had not brought her out of balance as much as seeing Renn.
Cora just stared towards Renn, completly and fully ignoring where she was flying and thus her landing on the roof where the soldier from before was standing was everything but pleasant and extremly sudden for Cora.

She more or less crashed into the roof, breaking a few shindles loose and possibly hitting him or his friend. She rolled upwards and eventually came to a stop. Cora lied on the ground for a few seconds in a rather uncomfortable position, one arm was behind her back and it looked as if it was broken from a bystander's point of view. There were a few tiny abrasions on her face and some bigger ones distrubuted along the other parts of her body.
She slowly got up, the arm weirdly dangling on the side of her body, all while still staring into the direction of where Renn was. Cora grabbed her arm, lifted and twisted it until it made a loud crack and had been placed properly back into the joint.
Was she halluzinating? This could not possibly be Renn, right? She dusted herself off, if either of the two garrison guys would say somethign she would not really hear it.
Cora placed the hands next to her mouth and shouted as loud as she could: "RENN! REEEENNNN!", as she waited for his response she turned back around to the two soldiers.
"I am sorry. Did you say something?"

The First Battle to Retake Trost District Empty Re: The First Battle to Retake Trost District

Post by Spaizman 5/11/2018, 19:40

As Anton glanced back at the smiling titan, leaning on the building and adjusting itself to reach for Lehmann and him, Cora swooped in and delivered a fatal blow to the monstrosity while yelling out a humorous greeting to it. Feeling his eyes narrow and brows furrow in confusion, he swore under his breath and fired an anchor into the roof on the opposite side of the street and flew over, yelling back to his subordinate, “Lehmann! The one on the right!”

As the both of them faced their intended target, the titan beside it grabbed a heap of rubble and debris before launching it directly at Cora, who barely evaded the fatal reach of the stones. Unfortunately, as Anton called, “Abnormal!” Lehmann was slower to react as fist-sized bit of ripped through and took off most of her head, leaving behind only her jaw and the rest of her body. As Anton looked on in horror, gritting his teeth and swore again. His grip on his maneuver gear tightened and he swore again and again. His eyes locked onto the titan on the left.

While Cora made her crash landing on the roof close to him, he continued to survey potential means of attack, barely catching the sound of someone’s maneuver gear and wires approaching them from the north. He glanced back to see someone, unique in appearance with white hair and pink eyes, making their way towards them. Before he took it into full consideration, Cora was already yelling, “Renn! Renn!”

Anton began to ask, “Who’s he?” before he heard the thuds of the left titan taking steps forward, shoving aside its accompanying titan on the right. Reacting quickly, Anton fired his anchors into the roof toward it, shouting, “Evade!” and felt his feet drag along the shingles. One caught his foot and he spiraled for a brief moment, flinging himself off the roof, before he caught himself and fired an anchor to the street to straighten out and another into the roofs on the opposite side. The titan reached for him all the way and it was luck alone that he wasn’t grabbed out of the air. As he was pulled toward the opposite roof, he reeled in both his anchors and fired them into the armpit of the titan and swung upward to get a view on its nape.

Though he got the perfect angle, when he reeled in and fired his anchors to deliver a fatal blow, his swords broke midway through the cut, and he found himself falling. Despite it all, he flung his broken swords toward the back of the titan’s knee, watching as one of them sliced into one of the joints. Knowing he was in trouble as the second titan made its way toward him, he withdrew back to Cora with his last set of blades and landed on the roof beside her, ready to coordinate their next attack.
