Auth had been riding for essentially three days straight. Ride, rent a room, eat, sleep, ride. During the nights, before sleep, prepare his tools and equipment, during the riding days plan ahead for the eventual meeting with the assassin leader.

Right now, he was in Krolva. He had stopped at an outskirt stable, entered the district on foot, and rented a room at the least notable inn he could find. Once there, he unpacked his suit, and dressed up as Black Crow. Right now, he had on himself slightly above thirty throwing daggers, four long-bladed, curved fighting knives, two vials filled with a clear liquid, both well protected by soft leather, six loaded flintlocks and an associated pouch of gunpowder and bullets, as well as his notorious mask and cape. At the same time, his mask currently hid within its beak a rather large glass vial, covered in leather and hid behind a plate of metal. Thus dressed, he left by the back window, making sure to not be seen. Luckily, he still didn't lose his edge in climbing.

Now, as the Crow, he was heading towards the shady alley Cora and him decided on as meeting spot. From there, they would pay a visit to the Dusk Hawks.

The Hawks were a rogue group of misfits, working as top level assassins. The documents recovered from Lord Marvin's party had pointed out to them, so this was the next link in the chain they required. A single individual called The Watcher was leading the group, and funnily enough he was an ex-pack member, although admittedly never full-fledged. Auth didn't really know the full story, but he was rather certain Cora would. After all, the times he's heard around pointed at the fact there had been years when both were in the same branch of the pack. The meeting between the two might be interesting.

Currently, their job was to take him alive. Failing that, they had to take alive the highest-ranking member they'd find. Failing that, they had to scrounge and hope they kept some form of written record. Regardless, they really needed the leader alive, so that he may act as testimony to Marvin's implication in all this, in order to get a proper high treason - and thus execution - sentence from the court.

As Auth arrived at the alley corner, he leaned on a nearby wall, arms crossed. Now, to wait for Cora.

Cora already loved this mission. No traveling involved. The constant switching of places they were at was really getting on her nerves. She loved the horses, the nature, the wind in her hair when riding. But all of this tended to get rather tedious rather fast if you had to do it as often as she had to lately. Esspecially all she now seemed to think of on their trips was Alan's death and how it was her fault...
Nevertheless...she still had to get her ass from their current outpost to the actual district. This morning she had talked with Renn about her mission and the past one. He probably had enjoyed her complaints about the mission quite a bit, but given she had been preparing a horse to ride into Krolva with she had not been able to see his face. Some part of her was glad about it, after all telling him that she had to put makeup on and play the dumb noble woman...she herself was embarassed at it! What would Renn think? She was kind of glad he had not been there when it actually happened, every time she thought about the events she got uncomfortable, the last thing she needed right now was him reminding her of what actually happened every time.
She had told him about the mission today and Renn seemed rather interested in what she had to do, so she...invited him. He was a professional after all, he would be everything but a burden...and which member of the pack did not want to meet the 'unscarred' legend that did not allow their back to be cut as part of their initionation ritual!

Now both of them found themselves taking a short trip to Krolva. Cora gave the horses to one of the stable masters and then they both made their way to their meeting point. Cora had braided and hidden her bright red hair under a hood, she was not recognizable as easily with the different hair colour now...but red was really not a hair colour you ignored easily either.

They approached their destination and she could tell the silluette of Auth in his crow costume for a bit further away. Talking about overdramatic. She never really understood those fancy costumes, a bandana and a hood could make someone seem as intimidating, if not more, than someone that dressed up like the plague doctor themselves. Still, Cora could appreciate art, so she could appreciate his fancy costume as well. The story that came with it was certainly quite impressing on its own.

She got closer to Auth and greeted him shortly. There was no need to elaborate this, after all she had to get away from him since Alan's death. She did not want him to feel the need to approach her or get close to her.
"Hello.", she just said, "I brought a friend of mine: Renn. Don't worry he is more than just capable for this mission, he was interested in it. I hope that won't bother you, if anything he can help us capture him alive easier."
Cora excused her unexpected invitation of Renn briefly. She just hoped he would be fine with it.

Renn already had his hood raised to hide his silver hair, even before leaving for the other district. Although he did complain to Cora about her getting all the good missions, he didn't mean it in the sense of he wanted to come along. Still, could be worse. It could always be worse.

Renn remained quiet during the trip and leading up to the meeting point. He was mainly running everything he knew about the current mission, which wasn't much, through his head.
Cora had told him that they would be working with Auth vi Rauco, which was mainly what got him interested in the mission. Auth vi Rauco, now an ex-scout and well-respected politician... or at least, soon to be.

Renn had heard a lot of current rumors about the famous Adar's son. Having such a powerful person as an ally, or better yet a servant, could indeed be beneficial.

The Snake's attention was brought out of his thoughts and to his perspective as he walked behind Cora down a dark alley, where the shadow of some humanoid bird could be seen waiting. König questioned if this was who they were supposed to be meeting. Strange. Must be some errand boy of Auth's. Interesting.

Cora started speaking, and even introduced the albino Alpha... how thoughtful! When Cora had finished making amends for the unplanned guest, Renn decided he should greet the monster personally, now that he could see the weird get-up costume that he supposed was meant to hide the real identity of the person.

"Hello, blackbird. Renn König at your sssservice. Hope you don't mind if I join the fray? Not like you have a choice in the matter, anyway. Ssssso... I was told that we were going to be working with the Auth vi Rauco? I'm a little dissssssapointed he hasn't shown."

Renn placed his hands on his hips and looked around, giving a false pout as if he were sad that the ringleader hadn't shown. It didn't last long as he soon clapped his hands and rubbed them together.

"What's the detailsssss then? How are we doing thisss? Let's get started!"

Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo)

Auth silently watched Cora approach, alongside the unknown tag-along. She greeted him shortly, which he could appreciate. The mission at hand was first priority, not parlay. The parlay would come later, to lull the Watcher into a false sense of security.

As it seemed, Renn, the tag-along, had very funny opinions regarding his identity or authority in this mission. If Cora trusted him, he was probably competent enough, but it was unplanned. Wouldn't hinder anything, however.

Auth first nodded to Cora's hello. After that, he slightly tilted his head, facing Renn.

"You seem to have very odd ideas about what is or isn't my choice. As personal proxy of Auth, I could choose your presence is a hindrance to the mission and shoot you on the spot. If that makes Cora leave, it means she was not fit for the mission and entitles me to shoot her too." The voice of the Crow was heavily distorted, a courtesy of the long metallic beak making the sound reverberate. He turned around, and motioned to the two mercenaries to follow him as he started walking down the alley.

"It's all right for this Renn fellow to join us. I assume he is some form of underling of yours, and thus if you trust him, that's enough guarantee." Obviously, he was talking to Cora. Now back to Renn. "As for the plan, it's simple in theory, hard in practice. We will enter the Hawks' main base of operations through the front door. Done by asking them to let us in, not by force. They won't refuse the Crow, nobody here does. Once there, we will proceed to request - and be granted - a meeting with the Watcher, our target. We will likely have to surrender weapons. Cooperate, but try to hide away anything you can. They'll be professionals, so don't expect to get away with much." Auth was not waiting for any input from the other two on his plan. In truth, he did not care much either. Cora wasn't a planner, but an improviser, and the addon was an unknown element, thus irrelevant to planning. "Once there, we will discuss, attempting to convince the Watcher to come willingly. That will certainly fail, but will grant us the opportunity to assault him. Wait for my lead. Once he is apprehended, we have to escape. We can't face their numbers. Given the location of the meeting will be roughly unknown, we'll have to improvise our way out. Once out, well, you hand me the fellow, I hand you the gold, and we head our separate ways."

With that, the mission briefing was over. Auth didn't ask if they had questions or complaints. In the end, they would anyway do as they believe is best, so answering questions was simply wasted time. For now, he merely kept walking, and listening, until they reached the building that was their target.

Auth had to give it to the Dusk Hawks, they knew what they were doing. On the one hand, the building was completely bland, completely gloomy like the rest of Krolva, and completely overlookable if you didn't know where you were headed. On the other hand, it was decidedly taller and than those around, acting as a watchtower for the assassins, and it was a cut-off location, bordered by very narrow alleyways, perfect for fighting off an attacker with greater numbers.

He stopped in front of the door, turning to Cora and Renn. He said nothing, but obviously, he was simply making sure they are ready to enter the fray.

Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo)

Post by cornix 21/5/2018, 22:22

Cora mostly ignored everything the bird said. He was not wrong, if he wanted to he could shoot either of them. If he managed to pull out his flintlock fast enough that is. That to be said, Auth was exagarating as always, he really tended to just...talk. Proof his superiority. He always thought of him being better or more superior than everyone, atleast that's how it seemed. Yes, he did have a flintlock, but did he have the combat experience she had? Or Renn had? He must really shoot alot to think that by the time he would be shooting with that flintlock he would still have his head. If either of them were close enough...there was no way that he would win. She did not talk to him alot recently but in the times she got to talk to him...he was always sure that he had more against the opponent than they had against him. She could ignore it most of the time but it sure tended to get annoying.

Cora just scoffed at him saying that Renn was an underling but did not say anything until he was done briefing Renn on their mission.
"First things first: about the mission, as that is more important. We just hand you the fellow? Is that not boring? We are masters at tickling out information of targets and we really enjoy it. Why don't you just sit in the corner and ask the questions and let us dirty our hands?", Cora asked. It was a genuine question, she would have really loved to torture the infamous 'unscarred' a bit. Give him the scar he had missed by leaving the pack.
"And Renn is of course my underling, aren't you?", Cora joked and gave him a friendly punch on the shoulder, all while keeping a very serious face on. To Renn she signaled with her hands that he should not in fact reveal who he was yet. It would be so much more funny later once they were let in by the hawks. She really hoped he understood, and if he in fact understood that he would agree to what she said.

As they reached the bulding Cora started to tense up a bit. She mentally and physically prepared for a fight, which...might really be necessary. Vex booted his systems up and went into alert mode while Nec carefully examined the house and all possible exits together with positions of guards, their possible routes they would take on patrol and their weaponry. It was good to be able to do the job of three in one head sometimes.

It was easy to enter, the moment they saw the black bird they let them in, even if they gave rather odd looks at Cora and Renn. Cora's face was certainly well known here, Renn's was not necessarily immediatly visible under his hood. Right now he most certainly just seemed like a really pale and rather tall man, nothing more. Neither were his red eyes seen, nor his white hair.

They entered the building through the main doors after which a rather ominous entrance hall was, esspecially for this district. They certainly lived well off of killing people, Cora just thought to herself. She got slightly startled at the heavy doors closing behind them, making them unable to escape immediatly. Cora was so distracted by all the guards, keeping track of everything that was happening that she did not hear if or what Auth said to the guards in his disguise. It did not matter much anyway, he was the politician, he should talk his way through this. Cora herself would be busy listening to the trash the guards were already starting to talk.
She could not hear everything but some parts for sure. 'Woman', 'Incapable', 'Sheep', 'Dependant', 'Coward', 'Military', 'Scars', and so on and so on.

Almost at this moment Auth had finished talking and the guards went towards Renn and Cora.
They started with Renn.
"I never thought I would see the 'white wolf' in here...'White wolf', eh? Your white hair only shows the sheepish part more. A black sheep is atleast somewhat special...but you...", he scoffed and mustered him top to bottom, "Are one of the sheepiest of them all."
He stared at him for a while, if Renn would answer he would not say anything and just let him finish after that he would simply continue with a: "Weapons off, Hood off."

A different guard approached Cora.
"And another sheep.", he turned towards Auth, "You really like those, don't you?", he asked rethorically and turned back to her, "Female Alpha, eh? Does not matter, your minds are all the same in the end."
Cora raised her eyebrows, "Sure. I am just saying though carnivorous sheep are more scary than a bunch of small hawks."
He ignored her skillfully and just ordered her as well to get rid of her hood and weapons.
They did not expect her to have red hair after she took the hood off, but whether or not they commented on it, Cora did not care and started getting rid of weapons.
"One. Two. Three. Four.", she counted while pulling out the knives on her belt and placing them on the floor. She had taken knives with her she did not care that much about, she knew she had to get rid of them. No use taking those she valued.
Cora continued removing knives from all sorts of places, continueing to count them half loud.

The guards looked at her and then exchanged some looks in between them.
"Stop playing with us. Those were by far not all. Boots?", he said.
"Empty.", was Cora's response but she did pull out two more hidden in her sleeves.
He laughed and just tilted his head. Cora sighed and got out another pair from a similar spot.
"Arms stretched.", he just ordered and Cora did as he said. He started running his hands on her body, a bit too slowly for her tastes.
"Go a bit faster will you? I might not look like one but I am still a woman!"
He did not seem to react much but he did got a tiny bit faster. Still not fast enough for her.
"Don't stay in any places either.", she said as he had reached her hips.
He did not seem to find any more knives on her, atleast not on her sides, he went along her arms, her legs and then mustered her from top to bottom, seeing where she could hide any.
The guard reached for her breasts, it was a good hiding spot indeed, he was not wrong with it, but Cora was not okay with him exploring this spot. The moment he touched her she had grabbed his hand and twisted it around his back, she did not break it but it hurt quite a bit in the moment.
"Tsch.", she let him go and went a step backwards. She pulled out a knife from in between her breasts and dropped it on the floor.
The other guards just laughed at it but did not make a fuss out of it. Cora was quite glad about it.
She just waited until the other two were finished as well.

Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo)

Post by Mitsuo Shimura 21/5/2018, 23:08

Renn walked slowly next to Cora as they entered the Dusk Hawks building, paying not much mind to what was said, except for giving a glare at Cora for agreeing he was her underling. He would get some sort of revenge for that later.

On entry, there were some mutterings by the Hawks about being weak, how Cora was a woman (which Renn disagreed to), sheep and cowards. That last one annoyed him.

As soon as the strangely dressed bird man finished his discussion, some guards had approached the Snake and Cora demanding their hoods down, after the one who approached Renn started mocking him.

Renn lowered his hood with one hand and gave an irked smile to the guard, his red eyes glaring into the hawk.
"It surprises me I'm known here, what a pity. That means I can't make a firssssst impression. Oh well, you jussst think I'm a sheep. Well, I see you more as a horse; more enjoyable when you're broken. And we all know what fun it is to beat a dead horsssse."

The Hawk said nothing but gave a slight glare at König. Eh, a reaction was better than none. Now, time to empty the weapons.
There was eight taken from his belt, two from his sleeves, two from his boots, six taken from under his trousers, four more on his torso, two on his shoulders and two small ones from two secret compartments in his hood.
All of which weapons were daggers.

Renn smiled and looked at his plain, steel beauties. He would have to remember to pick them from the bodies they get lodged in later.
He didn't really need to give away the two in his hood but he didn't need them, he felt capable without them.

The got Renn to spread his legs and stretch his arms as the guard patted down his body. There were no more weapons on his person and they confirmed him to be clear.

The guard returned to stand to his full height and was about to resume his normal position until Renn got his attention to stay in the Snake's vicinity a moment more, as König settled to his normal stance.
"Hey, before anything else happensssss... could you quickly answer a question for me?"
The guard glared, waiting.
"What's a Hawk without it'sssss wingsss?"

Renn gave his twisted smile.

Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo)

Post by Herdir 27/5/2018, 13:09

Auth started picking out knives and guns out from the folds of his clothing. In theory, nobody here had told him to, but he wasn't about to wait for it. Besides, it would give them more of a sense of security after all. Regarding the comments thrown around, he merely ignored most of them, up until one Hawk nearly lost his hand to Cora.

"See, people. That's why I like these sheep. They bite rather hard."

That got more chuckles out of the Hawks with intact hands. Apparently, most of them did hold warrior's respect for the Pack, but merely didn't see them as humans. In their eyes, it wasn't martial prowess the Pack was missing, but the ability to think freely. Still, some of the newer people were always louder.

"What's a Hawk without it'sssss wingsss?" Renn's question had gotten to peak Auth's interest. In honesty, it was more the anticipation of what the guard would do: retreat or retort.

"Well, it'll be hard to imagine for you, seeing as you do lack wings already, but it's pretty much like a Wolf without it's legs." The guard leaned back. This one wasn't of the newbies. By his age, Auth wondered if he hadn't been in the Pack before. He certainly didn't show a slither of fear of Renn.

In the meantime, Auth had finished getting rid of weapons. To his credit, the little pile he had built was somewhat taller than those of Cora and Renn. After all, when it came down to it, the one who won a battle wasn't the more skilled one, or even the more vicious one. As Auth started walking towards the door, an image of Severin and his gun popped in his head. Yes, that was the perfect example. It didn't matter how good you were, when your opponent can shoot at you five times before you can do anything. It didn't matter how good a scout you were, if your 3DMG malfunctioned, you wouldn't equal even a trainee. The one who won was decided long before the battle started. It was simply whomever was more prepared. And in this mission, Auth planned to be as prepared as possible, as he started trailing the guards that would lead them to their Watcher. They hadn't checked his mask, but he knew they wouldn't. It simply wouldn't do, asking a legend like Crow to unmask himself.

Now, they started taking a weird path, climbing stairs, jumping in-between buildings via windows, using rooftops as streets. The Hawks had made this elevated position their home, and it worked marvelously. He didn't doubt all the ropes hanged around were ziplines, in case they needed them. This approach to making a base was interesting, to saw the least, having the attention fall on the mobility and not the defensiveness of the position, and Auth had certainly not seen a mercenary group before. As their little escort of Hawks started nearing a taller building than the others, similar in height with the one where they had their weapons removed, things have slowed down. Once inside the building, they could see Hawks going up and down on the stairs, minding their own businesses, but in a threateningly high concentration. Auth had known they were popular, but he hadn't expected these numbers. Oh well. Will make the escape that much more fun.

On the top, there was a single built shack. Their escort simply stood by its sides and motioned to Crow to open and enter. Taking the offer, Auth entered the shack, followed by Cora and Renn. Inside, there sat a middle-aged man, wearing long hair caught in a rough ponytail, wearing a simple leather suit, and leaned over a table with a map on it. To his left and right there were two other men, standing, looking a good ten to fifteen years older, and about as weathered, leaning still over the table and the map. With their entrance, the Watcher took his eyes up from the map, and leaned back on his chair.

"My, welcome, my fellow avian friend." He put his legs up on the table corner, avoiding the map in the middle. "What bring you here?" His voice was almost jovial. That being said, it hid behind it the years over years of experience the man had, a man of such talent that as a teen he could fully escape the Pack, and make his own mercenary group after that.

"I'd prefer talking in private, if that is an option here." Of course, letting him have extra guards was a bad idea, and trying to get rid of them was only natural.

"Why of course! Your lovely hounds go first, though." And with that, he actually realized who they were. "Oh, why, I almost didn't notice you two! Not one, but two Alphas? You've got strings with the big guys I see, Crow." He got up from his chair, and leaned in, as if to inspect the two. "Oh, little Wolf girl, I wonder if you remember me." He sighed. "There was a time, you were so small and had so much promise. You didn't take to the rules, you kept your freedom even in captivity, you were better than any of these other tamed dogs that you so much call Wolves. Now you're one of them again, a follower of rules and traditions. I've heard you take contracts with the military, even. As if you needed more things to put constraints on you." He shook his head. Now for Renn. "Ah, and the albino alpha of Yarckel." The Watcher lifted his neck, trying to peek at Renn's neck, and in the meantime displaying his full height, with was slightly taller than everyone else, Renn included. "It's true, then. You're so tame that even the tame dogs of the pack thought you're too docile. I hear you fashion yourself a snake. It's a bad comparison. They have much more liberty and freedom than you do, although admittedly they too only roam the earth." He let himself fall back into his chair. "Well, sorry for the monologue. I just hate it when I see potential that had been wasted this badly, that's all. In any case, we either talk as two people, or as six. And don't even try convincing me that the Pack don't count as people. I know they don't, but they can still hear just fine."

Auth licked his lips inside the mask. This would be a long, drawn out night, until they could get this fellow to drop his guard.

Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo)

Post by cornix 28/5/2018, 00:03

Cora really enjoyed their trip to the watcher. It was new to take trips over rooftops, between buildings. Really interesting. Vex probably enjoyed it the most and he was giggling inside their head as if he was a little child, which he arguably was.
Nec on the other hand remembered the route they took, he did not focus anymore on the data he collected about the mansion but gradually added other escape routes while eliminating the other ones out of his active brain right now. No use remembering anything that was this far away. It would not be an escape route for them at all. Those ropes that lead off of some of the buildings however....Using those without anything to hold onto was a pure suicide but if she would be able to find a really sturdy log, or even better something made out of metal she could easily use those to escape. Good thing she was in fact still able to keep some small weapons. She had a knife in each of her boots, on the sole specifically and...still one in her cleavage. She had also managed to avoid the guard from finding another, rather small knife behind her belt. Admittetly, she had put all effort into him not touching her too much and too orderly...he probably would have if she would not have been trained in those searches.

They finally reached the watcher's position. A shack. How fancy. Cora disagreed with this choice, come on! They could have atleast built something a bit more...pleasing to the eye! Good thing she was not one that constantly hid from the law. In which case...this shack was probably the most luxorious they could find.

They entered and Auth started chatting with the watcher, typical. He was good at chatting. Cora was not, silence was always a better option in her humble opinion.
And thus, she stayed silence during his monologue. It was also better manners, but in her opinion that was irrelevant now. After all she had to prove a point to herself.
He finished. Point proven. Nec disagreed with this way but did not stop her from answering to the 'big guy'.

"First of all: I think it's fine if all of us stay here, my job is to guard you and I am not leaving your side. Secondly: I am sorry to tell you but I do not remember you very clearly. I was quite young back then, I do remember the whole fuss about it...but to be fully honest, you have grown quite a bit. You did not have a beard back then.", she looked at Auth and then grinned widely and leaned in a bit: "You must really feel like a dwarf right now, eh?", she said happily and then went back to just standing.
"Sorry for interupting."

Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo)

Post by Mitsuo Shimura 28/5/2018, 12:49

Renn had finally given up on talking during the tip on the way to the Watcher. He decided it was a waste of breath as no one was reacting the way he had hoped. How boring.

As he focused on the way they were going, he concluded that the rip-off Pack was overdoing it with all the jumps, rooftops and windows.
Maybe their just that egotistical and have the need to live up to calling themselves "Hawks". At least the Pack doesn't have their hideout in caves just because they call themselves "Wolves".

They reached the Watchers building which was just a shack. A not too shabby shack but still a shack, not much to talk about.
König entered behind Cora and the Crow, waking to stand beside the female Alpha and behind "Krolva's Legend", with the latter starting to talk with the Watcher.

Renn listened to the conversation with disinterest and only gave a reaction as a roll of the eyes when the Watcher started talking towards the Snake. He would've given a retort if he hadn't already concluded it'd be useless.

Renn just shook his head slightly and sighed.
"I can't take anymore of thissss. I'm here to... Well, actually I wasn't officially meant to be here. So you lot can talk out as a group of four becausssse I'm going to wait outside."

With that Renn turned on his heel and started heading to the door that they entered from.

Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo)

Post by Herdir 28/5/2018, 13:41

Auth listened to his companions' choices in the matter of presence. As one could expect, they had opposite views, despite being both Alphas. It was new information, that the Renn fellow was also an alpha, but not completely unexpected. Regardless, he didn't wish to remain, which was not all that much of a bad thing.

"I think we've found ourselves a compromise." Auth looked after Renn for a second, as the Watcher's companion quickly followed him. No orders given, no words spoken. They simply did what they had to.

"Indeed we have." The Watcher sat back down, legs once again on table. "Also, little wolfie that's still here, 'course I had no beard back then. I was 15, you know. Anyhow, onto business." He turned his head back to Crow. "So, should I guess what your reason for being here is? Or are you actually going to still say it?"

Auth slowly moved his hands towards his mask. The Watcher visibly tensed up slightly, in anticipation for anything Crow might try to pull. "In fact, there's two reasons." Auth silently undid the belts keeping the mask in place. He proceeded to take it down, and lay it on the table, hands still on it, resting with his thumbs towards the inside.

To this the watcher merely left out a silent 'oh', quickly followed by another, longer 'ooooh' and then an under-the-breath "Well that makes a lot of sense actually." He silently waited for Auth to say his proposition. He had no doubt at this point that the two were here to kill, kidnap or in any case inconvenience his physical health, but he wouldn't have needed to take the mask off for this. There was another reason, and he was making it clear he was very interested in it.

"You see, I've recently lost a friend. A rather close one." The Watcher kept watching and listening to Auth. "I'm looking for the killer. I need your services regarding that."

"An interesting proposition, but why us and not your precious wolves?" The Watcher threw the question quickly, before Auth could go into any more detail.

"You said it yourself. They are good at guarding, and at fighting. I need an assassin, and a spy. A bounty hunter, if you will." Auth was not, in fact, planning to hire him. Instead, he had been carefully pressing his fingers into a mechanism installed into his mask just for this one very special occasion. Almost soundless, and even that masked by the talk, poison gas started leaking out of the mask, at what would be called an alarming rate. Perfectly transparent, however, they only way to tell was the hay smell of the gas. Given this was an Al-Sayna homebrew, he was the only one that would notice it. Before starting to fall unconscious, at least.

"Good point. Give me the details, then we'll talk payment." Auth nodded to that.

"Used to go by the name of Ottomer Davage. Likely changed it until now." Auth moved his hand to retrieve a sheet of paper from his clothing. The Watcher was still sharp about it being a possible weapon, but was putting less effort into being prepared for a sudden jump. The perk of telling true interests to someone was that they couldn't tell you're lying, since you weren't. Auth threw the paper in front of the Watcher. "There. Artistic impression of the personality. I don't know if he still wears his hair the same way, and the facial traits are approximate, but it's all I could do." The Watcher took the paper and studied it at length. After a few seconds, his face seemed to lighten up.

"Waaait, don't tell me you're serious." He folded the paper and put it in his own coat. "You want me to kill an MP? I'm not sure who's more full of surprises, you for wanting one dead or them for giving you a reason." Auth raised an eyebrow to this. The Watcher caught up on the unspoken question. "Yeah, I know who this guy is. Looks wise, anyway. We've got a roster downstairs, with a whole bunch of drawings like this. It's titled 'Policemen you shouldn't try to bribe'. He's right there after Alan, as part of that crazy lawkeeper's squad."

"That crazy lawkeeper is dead." Auth tone and bluntness immediately tipped off the Watcher. He almost started laughing, but quickly stifled it.

"Man, this is rich. And I'll be, too, if this guy is even half as slippery as I'd expect. Killed his damn superior and made it out alive, why, it reminds me of my youthful days."

Auth was starting to feel dizzy. It was mere moments until the bulk of the poison would start kicking in, and thus he started coughing. Feigned, of course, but he was able to do it convincingly enough. While covering his mouth, he quickly took a small dark pill, which he gulped as he was 'recovering' from the sudden coughing fit. It would take some time until that made its effect, but for now it should be able to prevent the worst of the poison from affecting him.

"So, we've got a deal?" Auth extended a hand.

The Watcher stood up, and took Auth's hand. "We do..." His eyes suddenly widened, likely because standing up made him realize just how bad the poison was affect him already. Auth fully gripped his hand, and slid the one dagger hid in the mask's beak. A very short, but very sharp one. "Assistance!" The Watcher cried out, pulling his own dagger from his belt. The guard pulled out a pair of daggers of his own.

Chaos was about to start. A half poisoned Auth, against a really poisoned Watcher, against a really poisoned Cora, a really poisoned guard, a Renn that hopefully stopped the other guard from yelling or running, and that was only the beginning.

Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo)

Post by cornix 31/5/2018, 17:01

Cora listened quietly to the exchange between the Hawk and the Crow. She was thinking about whether or not crows were food for hawks in the wild but eventually decided on it depending on both the crow and hawk species. Now she did not know that many but she almost wanted to ask the watcher which type of Hawk his 'pack' was based on.
Meanwhile Nec was listening very closely, he kept a good eye on both the Watcher and Auth. As he was not sure what kind of shit either of them wanted to pull off. Auth slipped a picture of him over the table.
The reaction inside his head was similar to the Watcher's before. Short 'Oh', long 'oh', longer 'oh'.  He however kept this totally silent from either Cora or Vex. No need to bother them with what he had found out now. It was way more fun revealing it at a different point. It's not like he cared much. Alan was dead, no way to change that anyway. And Mikael...might be of use later on. Also it's not like Nec particularely cared about Alan anyway. Unlike Cora. And Vex was just kinda...he did not know what his issue with the world and himself was.
That to be said, both Cora and Nec chuckled quietly at the 'no bribing' board, their combined voices made her sound a bit odd. As if she had a frog in her throat. Auth probably could guess what was wrong with her, but she doubted the watcher knew about it.

By now Vex was getting more and more alert. He had sensed the slight smell of hay in the room. He looked at Auth, esspecially at the mask. Vex knew all to well about Al Sanya's poisoning skills, but right now he did not intend to get poisoned. He held their breath.
Cora and Nec were both getting alert at him doing that but Vex had full control right now and after a short dispute they agreed to only breathing very shallow.

Auth coughed and they felt a bit dizzy, not much...but a bit. Breathing shallow certainly helped, but it did get her also a bit dizzy from the lack of oxygen. This would be fun.
It was mere moments until everyone in the room had realized the gas. Cora pulled out two knives from various body parts. This was going to be fun. They knew that neither of them could fight with only breathing shallow, so their only way was to end this fight quickly and use the few seconds they had of the knowledge of the gas to their advantage. They were anyway fighting against opponents with way more experience. This was going to be...fun. Really, really fun.

Cora dived below the first attack of the guard, Auth was stuck with the watcher. Not necessarily good for him...but who knew that the exwingman could pull off.
He was fast, the hawk across her was way too fast for what she had expected him to be. He was about the same height as her but rather bulky, Cora was a tiny bit faster. Not much however. She managed to cut the man open on one arm but traded it with a small cut on her leg. Still, his blood loss was worse. Cora kicked upwards to his head, he caught her leg and pulled so she fell to the ground. Good. She pulled herself closer really quickly, stabbed his own leg and kicked him with the other one in his face, he had dropped both knives by now. Fortunate. He grabbed both her legs and threw her against the wall of the shack, Nec was rather surprised it held so well. The air got pressed out of her lungs but she managed to get herself up, still gasping for air. How much she hated fighting against people stronger than her. As he got closer she put up the most fearful facial expression she could. She was not afraid but maybe it would confuse her opponent enough. It did, she probably still was a kid in his eyes. When he was close enough Cora jumped up high enough to throw him over. It was Vex's turn now. He pressed on the carotid arteries on the sides of his neck, with one arm fighting off his hands until her opponent decided it was more efficient to try breaking her ribs.
He passed out and Cora got up, up meaning up for a second before falling down to the ground. The poison was taking more and more effect on her. The only thing that got her  out of this situation now was the fact they had inhaled less in the beginning.
She looked over to Auth.

Auth had been fighting the Watcher for a while. The table in between them had been to his advantage in the beginning, a way to get away for a bit, while he was breathing in more and more of the gas. He probably was the one that was most expected to win this whole fight. Usually everyone would be above his level but right now, they were all sinking more and more down to his and further away. Thus, moving a bit further away was beneficial to him. The more he breathed in the worse it got. And that's how they wanted him after all, not dead but unable to do anything on his own. Eventually it came to a fight and Auth used all the advantages he got, the fact he was faster, more stable, smaller, smarter...
Both Cora and Auth managed to knock their opponents out at almost the same time, but unlike Auth, Cora was now struggling to even stand. She was leaning on the wall, trying not to breath, which was...very hard given the amount of adrenaline in her blood and the amount of oxygen she needed after her own fight.

Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo)

Post by Mitsuo Shimura 31/5/2018, 19:03

The other Hawk closed the door to the shack behind him as he followed Renn outside. Both men did not wander too far from the door with Renn not doing so to prepare what he could presume was about to happen and the Hawk not doing so because he did not trust Renn.

König was staring holes into the Hawk stood opposite him to which the bird mercenary merely glanced back every so often, unaffected. Eventually, Renn broke the silence that grew between them with small talk.

"You know, you sssshould have stayed in there... it would've been safer."

The Hawk looked over at Renn and chuckled.
"What? You think you can beat me? I like you, you're funny... although, for someone who calls themselves a snake, you're not that smart."

The Snake gave a slight smirk, turning his attention to the sky and the rooftop view.
"I'll hand it to your group, you have a lovely view with the way you've set up. It'sssss beautiful. Such a sssshame it has to be ruined."

That caught the Hawk's attention.
"Ruined? Ruined by what?"

As if it was scripted like a play, the Watcher's voice had called out, yelling for assistance.
The Hawk stared wide eyed at Renn, who flashed a smile, before turning his attention to the door. A hesitant moment passed before the scarless hitman made a break for the door.

At the same time, König bursted into a sprint towards the Hawk member and tackled him away before he could reach the shack.
The two tumbled but quickly rose to their feet, slightly crouched and facing each other with Renn positioned between the Hawk and the shack.

"You've just sealed your fate."

"What, covered with your blood? Sssssounds wonderful. "

The Hawk closed in, bringing out a dagger and slashing at Renn with quite a speed.
The Snake was barely able to match the speed to dodge and block the attacks, his clothes getting cut and small wounds appearing on his body.

As the Hawk made an attack with a swing to Renn's left, König blocked it with his arm before getting hold of the assailant in a grapple.
Using the hold as an advantage Renn gave a few blows with his elbow to the man's face.

In retaliation the Hawk drew out another dagger with his free arm and stabbed Renn in the shoulder, making the Alpha lose his grip.
The Dusk grunt circled Renn before pushing the Snake to the ground, keeping ahold of his weapons.

The Hawk stabbed down at Renn, with the latter rolling out  of the way.
Where Renn was just laying, however, the Hawk had cut a rope which had suddenly dropped off the side of the roof and the sound of glass breaking could be heard soon after.

The Hawk followed his attack by dragging the dagger after Renn, who continued to roll out of the way before springing to his feet.
The after math of this was three more ropes being cut and dropping to areas below.

Renn smiled at the Hawk who was glaring at him.
"I find it unfair that you have two weapons against an unarmed man but I guessssss that says something about how good I am. Neverthelessssss."

Renn used his tongue to fiddle inside of his mouth, which confused the Hawk for a moment, eventually spitting out an object into his palm.
A small blade that looked like the tip of a Dagger with a hole on it rested in the Snakes hand.
König took a quick second to equip his small blade to the middle finger of his right hand.

The Hawk didn't hesitate and approached Renn with a sprint. König appreciated his opponents stamina before realising he had to move out of the way from an attack.

Renn ducked a slash for his head and retaliated by slashing the Hawk's legs.
A swing down and the Snake rolled out of the way stabbing the Dusk grunt's arm.
Forgetting about the other arm, König received another stab, this one to his waist.

Renn bit his lip to stifle the pain, not being able to hold back a small chuckle, however.
"Tingly."

Both men withdrew and started circling each other. Eventually the stopped and charged at one another, the Hawk trying the offensive with a stab.
Renn managed to side step out of the way before reaching in and using his opponent's momentum to slit his throat.

He watched with a smile as the Hawk's body dropped to the floor, lifeless. A heavy exhale escaped the Snake as pain started nubbing its way to his attention. The fight felt like an eternity, not being used to many people who can match his skill.

Renn made a mental note to train with Cora more often as his body gave in and he collapsed to the floor.

Wait.

What was with the glass breaking and the ropes at the edge of the rooftop?

Renn listened out and heard the faint sounds of other mercenaries being alerted to intruders.

Great.

Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo)

Post by Herdir 3/6/2018, 18:36

The battle had been quick and violent. Everyone had pulled out weapons, everyone had given all they could, and Auth only managed to keep up thanks to them being poisoned. After all, if you couldn't beat them, drag them down to your level and beat them with experience, right? So far, it appeared to have worked perfectly, as, while his clothes were indeed full of cuts and his flesh not the cleanest right now, scratched open all over, the job had been certainly done. Now, onto the hard part: roof-jumping an escape while carrying an unconscious body.

He hadn't heard the bottles falling outside, but it was anyway only a matter of time until someone would notice the entire thing going on here. As such, they all had to hurry. Taking things in order, starting with Cora, he quickly rushed to the wall she was leaning on, taking out the small bottle of antidote he had on him. He had no idea how badly Cora was affected by now, and given the poison [i]was[i] in fact lethal, he didn't want to take any chances, and thus pulled out a small glass syringe out of his mask. Once the antidote had changed recipients, he proceeded to take her arm and inject the liquid into her. That done, he repeated the procedure for the Watcher, whom they didn't want dead either.

Next thing, he paced over to Cora's opponent, and stabbed him in the neck with one of the dropped knives. He didn't like taking any chances of the guy surviving to tell the tale, nor his methods of using poison be that obvious. For the same reason, he quickly took his mask back, re-attaching it as fast as he could.

By now, Cora should've had enough time to recover her basic functions, so he took the Watcher's body over his shoulder and started heading out. He was pleased to see Renn having handled the other guard as opposed to letting him escape, but not as happy with him more or less collapsed due to injury. Still, couldn't be helped. That meant his idea of relying on Renn to carry the not-so-light body while on rooftops kind of fell short, as he wouldn't perform better than Auth in this context.

"We have to get out, now" He said to Renn, already looking around to see what the fastest and least likely to be defended way down would be. "Making sure the Watcher does not fall to death is priority one. We have to move!"

Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo)

Post by cornix 5/6/2018, 20:20

Cora realized that Auth was walking towards her, she also realized he poked her with a needle but was unable to move a single muscle to either do it faster or work against what he was doing. How interesting poison was! She did not like it even though the situation was an all too familiar one for her. Losing control over her body happend rather often to someone that shared their head with two disturbing roommates.

As Auth was fixing the Watcher's faith she regained access over her limbs. Still, she was slower than Auth at this point and was rather unsteady on her feet still. It did change more though the moment she stepped out of the shack and took a deep breath. The oxygen helped her. Not much, but a bit. Atleast the antidote would keep her from ending up as dead as the guy Auth just delivered the final blow to. She saw Renn. Ha. Atleast she did not LOOK as dead as he did. Hihi! Now it was time to escape, as far as her currently impaired brain had understood they did got caught. There goes their beautiful carefully planned out secret escape. Gone. Dang it. Whatever, they would find a way.

Given Renn's general looks and probably physical problems he had from his own fight Auth decided to take it onto himself to carry the Watcher. What a strong dwarf he could be! Vex was surprised. Auth looked quite frail after all, or well, not frail but atleast not the strongest. You know, the run of the litter.

Nec, Cora and Vex (the latter one did not matter much, he just agreed) decided on getting a bit further away by entering the building to their right. There was only a good meter between this building and a window, leading into the one story higher one. Cora went first, she was the fastest right now, she could take out people in front of them while Renn would have the possibility of doing so with the people following them. He would also hopefully block their way from their unwanted followers by throwing in obstacles in their way.
Auth on the other hand would be too busy carrying their person. Hopefully he was capable of doing that for a long time and over a nice little obstacle course, otherwise Cora would have to do that and she was NOT looking forward to anything along those lines. Carrying people? None of her business.

She went through the first room and out of it, noone was in front of them yet, great. Cora continued walking through the building until she found a staircase. Two hawks happily greeted her by threatening to deliver her into the afterlife. As Cora did not agree to that, she instead did it for them. Jump kick to the chest and down the stairs they went! Oh, how broken their backs looked! Still not dead enough for Vex's tastes though so they also ended up with slit throats. You can't never not kill someone enough.

Their journey continued. They went through buildings, to different ones through windows, balconies and rooftops, down into a street and hiding back into a different building. Sometimes they would split up with either Cora or Renn leading them onto different paths for Auth being able to continue in a different direction. It was a fun ride. By the end of it Cora was slightly cut up, nothing major, had a huge black eye on her left side, a few more broken ribs (Nec estimated it to be around 4 to five), and her clothing was sticking to her body from not only her own but also her enemies' blood. Beautiful! What a good day! Could not have went any better what so ever! She loved it!

Cora grinned at Auth who was currently behind her. The streets in front of them were clear and their way to exit this whole disaster was close. She was pretty confident that her maneuvers got them confused and that they were able to disappear any time soon now without further intervention.
"I think we are good to disappear now! Pretty sure we confused them well enough. Even if!", she went to the warddrobe in the room and the rather frightened woman who's home they had invaded to seek shelter whined and hushed away into a different corner.
"I think we should change our clothing. These should fit you.", she handed both Renn and Auth clothing before taking some herself.
"Sorry for getting you into all this trouble by the way, Renn..."

Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo)

Post by Mitsuo Shimura 11/6/2018, 22:05

Renn was laying on the floor, catching his breath and staring at the sky. He could feel his energy seep into him, as if he was absorbing it from a puddle.

The sounds of birds, shouts and gusts of wind faded dully as Renn slowly closed his eyelids at an ill-timed but well deserved rest. Unfortunately, all chances of that happening, however, were lost as Cora and the Crow burst out of the shack.

The Snkae's eyes instantly re-opened and he stared at the two, the two stared back. Each facial expression was different: Renn had a little tint of shock, Cora had a grin and the Crow... was hidden by his mask.

Renn hesitantly got to his feet, wobbling a little as a threat to collapse again but his strength soon returned to him.

"We have to get out, now"
Broke the silence from the Crow, who König now just realised was carrying the Watcher. Success.

"No ssssshit. The Hawk here used sssssome alert system by dropping bottlesssss off of the side."
If Renn hated anything more than orders, it was pointing out the obvious in a serious manner. It was good for a joke, sure, but only for that.

Before Renn could muster up a witty comment, Cora suddenly chose a direction and darted off. Well planned, Alpha. The Crow followed suit and Renn tried his best to keep up.

Navigating the rooftops wasn't much of a problem, pick a place and go. However, avoiding people who know the place like the backs of their hands was an impossible task.
Groups of Hawks easily managed to catch up and even overtake the now wanted group.
The trio fixed this problem by having Cora slicing at anyone who got in her way and Renn making a mess behind him to slow the pursuers down.

Sometimes, Blondie would slow down and so the Snake would take the lead and run in a complete different direction.
Renn would have found such an expedition fun, if he weren't so scratched up. From becoming leader of where to go, Renn would quickly fall back to the last in line.
During a switch, König became slower than usual because an arrow that stuck his leg. He didn't see where it came from but he cursed whoever got the shot. How unsurprising that they have bowmen.

Sooner or later, they managed to lose the Hawks and escape. Cora had barged in to some poor woman's house, not hesitant to take clothes from a nearby wardrobe.
She handed Renn and Auth some clothing before taking some herself.

"Sorry for getting you into all this trouble by the way, Renn..."

Renn scoffed at Cora. Usually he'd say how apologising was a sign of guilt and guilt is a weakness but this time, it was just a stupid apology.

"Don't be dumb, you didn't drag me into anything. I opted to come along, remember? It'ssssss my fault I'm in thissss state. Although it hassss been fun, I couldn't say I'd do it again, mainly asss it wasn't what I really signed up for."

He missed the pleasure of meeting Auth. An encounter he had never imagined he could possibly have. Pity.
Renn dropped the clothes he was given and walked over to the nearest wall and leant against it, using the support to preserve his energy.

"Sssso, what's the plan now? I'll be damned if I helped you for nothing."

Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo) Empty Re: Wolves and Men, Part III - The Hawks (Closed: Herdir, Cornix, Mitsuo)

Post by Herdir 13/6/2018, 10:12

Auth had focused his entire energy on the path. He had to trust Cora and Renn about everything else, because running with another man on your back turned out to be rather hard; especially when running involved jumping rooftops. Out of mere luck, or perhaps because Renn and Cora were perceived as the major threat, there had been no arrows hitting him, or any other wound.

When they did stop, however, he put the Watcher down on the floor, then propped himself up against a wall. His muscles were sore, bones ached, breath aflame. He had been losing his physical shape recently, and this little endeavor only went to prove that was, indeed, the case. Cora and Renn started bantering about his presence here, and Auth only managed a weak chuckle at their discussion. Funny, how nobody thought of asking him about any of that.

Next up, however, Auth took a deep breath and moved to the wardrobe. He got the clothing Cora had found for him, changing the shirt and putting a travel cloak over it, as well as another piece of dark cloth he ripped off of something in there. With it, he merely left the room, took off his mask, and wrapped the cloth around his head, then put on the hood. Only his eyes were visible. Good. The mask disappeared into the folds of the cloak. On his was back, he dropped a few golden coins on the woman's table. He probably gave her three to four times the amount of clothing they had stolen, and by the look on her face, she was indeed unsure if to be distressed at their presence, or grateful for it. She went with the middle path and remained at "really, really scared".

In the meantime, Renn was asking for the plan. "Well, at this point, there's no need of you two any more. You're both rather wounded, so your priority is to take care of yourselves. I'll just bribe some random person to help me carry this fucker" Auth poked the Watcher with his foot. The man was damn asleep. "Oh, this reminds me..." He left again, and came back with a large, thick sack found somewhere in the woman's house. He put it right over the Watcher, and aside from the really suspicious shape, you couldn't tell there was a man inside. Unless you were closer than 5 meters.

"Anyway, good work out there. Payment will be given by Auth to Cora, as per their agreement. It's been a pleasure working with you" With that, he bid farewell and simply left. As he said, bribing some random person wasn't hard; this was Krolva after all. From there, it was only a short way to the stables where he had left his horse, then put the man on the horse, and put himself on the horse. He had a writ on his person that said he was officially authorized by the MP to capture a criminal leader, so as soon as he was out of Krolva he'd be at no risk. He didn't even have to forge the writ; Nile Doc had been all too happy to give it to him, since it would allow him to partake in the merits for this capture.

Well, the long road back home it was, now...
