Outside the walls mission

Post by Herdir on 13/6/2017, 11:38

This is an idea that's been mentioned over in the discord, taken here to be given a more whole shape.

Requirements:

-Has to have both MP and Survey participating (garrison optional, mercenaries optional)
-That's all

Initial Idea I am having:

There have been rumors and talk of human outposts between Wall Rose and Wall Maria, in what is generally known as titan territory. Some co-vert MP operations have uncovered that the only possible location for such a thing would be a specific castle (will be named later), and the possibility is both promising and threatening enough to warrant a recon mission. The MP will collaborate with the Survey Corps this time, due to the nature of the investigation.

So, if anyone has:

a. Different Ideas
b. Additions to my idea
c. Flaws to point out in either my or others' ideas

Please write them. Upon most of us agreeing, it will be given a go.

I feel this plot is treading a bit too close to the anime one. Not that there's anything wrong with that - I just think that something more original would be cooler.
I suggest to swap the setting from a castle to an abandoned town. And the MP dispatch should be a small one compared to the Survey one.
Like, considering the expertise and job of the survey corps, they should be the ones handling it. Only a small team of MPs should come, should they find any human threats or wanted targets. Likewise the garrison should dispatch a small team, to handle refugees and civillians who need to be escorted back to the city.

That's my take, at least Razz

Excellent! I finally found this. I'm not used to the site design just yet.

I do agree with Alan about there being more Survey corps, since in general there are more of them and they'd be more used to this territory.

Not much opinion on if this is getting close to the anime or not. I've only ever seen the anime, and I can't tell if they made anything past episode 10 of season 2 or not.

I do have two questions though:
1. We would probably run into a lot of titans right? Especially if people are already out there I'd assume at least some titans are trying to get them...unless I missed something plotwise about titans/these specific people.
2. We going in on horse or just the 3D mobility gear? I'd assume horse, or foot for stealth, for the start of it to get there but I wanted to be sure.

1)Titan expectency should be high. It's right in titan territory... Supposedly.
2) Going into titan territory by foot is suicidal. Horses are a must.

Going by our previous assumption I made a quick table of how long you need to get to Shiganshina from the Karanes district as all operations are started from there.

I calculated a few things but I am too lazy to sort them...that's why:
The average amount of km you travel per day should be around 80

Bad weather reduces the managed distance by about a third, the longer it goes on the worse it gets.
We assume bad weather affects one day at a time, not just half of a day. After a few days it can not get too much worse anymore.
For this we get the bad weather table:

The upper row indicates how long it affects the journey, if there should be a good weather break in between you start the table all over again and just add it up. Basic math. The day after a bad weather was is still considered bad weather due to possible mud and after effects.

One day: a third
two days: a quarter
three days: a sixth
four days: an eight does; not affect anything afterwards

Average speed per day | amount of kilometers they did not manage

To actually go outside the walls would obviously take longer, but to get outside them: Tadaaa!

1. Agreed with Alan's abandoned town. Changed accordingly.

2. About the MP-to-survey ratio: it's actually what I was thinking as well. Thus, it's what we do now.

3. Titan expectancy is anywhere between normal (outside walls that is), to low (if the community exists and has a way to turn titans away) to obscenely high (if the community exists and simply manages to hide from the titans... or if they're not enemies with them...). As such, people will be prepared for a lot of fighting, although it's not a certainty.

4. Cornix: the calculations are great, although we're not going all the way to outside both walls. The amount of travel days can thus be adapted to fit our own needs (as the distance to wherever we go can be changed). How do opinions look on this one? 2-day, 3-day, 4, 6? (including going back)

After point 4 is decided it'll be a go.

Does it truly matter? Do we really need chats of preparation before starting an RP? Can't we just begin?
